pa1x updating

I need a step by step on updatng OS and musical resources. Very nervous about losing my "stuff" Is it as complicated and time consuming as it seems with all those floppies? I'm sure I have an adequate computer and skills to save, update and load everything. WKTB

This is a straight forward process and, unlike the i-series upgrades, you cannot destroy your keyboard, however it is important to back up all your USER data first.

Here are the instructions - hope this helps:-

SAVE ALL YOUR USER DATA FIRST...

You may already have the diskettes prepared etc but here are the details anyway.
MAKE SURE YOU OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISKETTE #1 AND PRESS "Intro 1" INSTEAD OF THE "OK" ON THE SCREEN (see below) if you wish to clear your PA1XPro before the installation....

Download the following file to your PC from:-

Unzip this file and you will see 5 files like this:-
Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk1.exe
Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk2.exe
Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk3.exe
Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk4.exe
Pa1X_Upgrade_Procedures.pdf (instructions)

I strongly recommend that you read the "Pa1X_Upgrade_Procedures.pdf" upgrade
instructions in conjunction with the steps below...

Prepare 4 blank diskettes
Insert first diskette and double click Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk1.exe
...this will build diskette 1
Remove the diskette when finished and label it "OS3.01 Disk #1"
Insert second diskette and double click Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk2.exe
...this will build diskette 2
Remove the diskette when finished and label it "OS3.01 Disk #2"
Insert third diskette and double click Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk3.exe
...this will build diskette 3
Remove the diskette when finished and label it "OS3.01 Disk #3"
Insert fourth diskette and double click Pa1X_os_v301_Dsk4.exe
...this will build diskette 4
Remove the diskette when finished and label it "OS3.01 Disk #4"

These four diskettes will be used to build your OS 3.01

Make sure the PA1XPro is powered OFF
Insert OS3.01 Disk #1
Power on PA1XPro
Follow the prompts on the screen
(Note: for diskette #1 press the "Intro 1" button
INSTEAD of pressing the "OK" on the screen if you wish to clear your PA1XPro before building the new OS)
The remaining 3 diskettes will be prompted for and all you do is simply insert them when requested.
When finished loading all diskettes, power OFF the PA1XPro.

Remove diskettes and Power ON the PA1XPro
The keyboard should start up but you will see a "no style" and no sounds - this is OK.
MAKE SURE YOU RE-CALIBRATE THE TOUCH SCREEN NOW (seems to always be necessary when installing OS3.01)
Now you must load the OS Resources file into the PA1XPro

Download the resources file to your PC from:-
http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/software/ ... 300_hd.zip

Unzip the file (using folder names) and you will end up with a folder on your PC called "pa1x_300.bkp"
Connect your PA1XPro to your PC (USB) and copy this folder to your PA1XPro hard drive.

Disconnect your PA1XPro from your PC
Go to the PA1XPro Disk > Utility page and select “Full Resource Restore”, then press "Execute".
The hard disk contents will appear..
At this point, select the “pa1x_300.bkp” folder you previously copied to the hard disk.
At the end of the Restore operation, turn the Pa1X off and then on again.

Sorry - I assumed that you have a HDD on your PA1X - if you do not, then download the 3.00 resources zipped file (floppy version):-

Unzip the file and execute each ".exe" to create the 6 diskettes.

Best to follow the instructions in the PDF file included - very straightforward.

Package Contents
The archive “Pa1X_res_v[nnn]_fd.zip” contains this “Pa1X Upgrade Procedures” file, and
six “Pa1X_res_[nnn]_Dsk[1…6].exe” files. Use WinZip (www.winzip.com) to extract
them from the archive.
Preparing Resource Floppy Disks
You will need six HD-type floppy disks and a PC-IBM compatible computer, running any
version of the Microsoft Windows operative system. This procedure will format, copy and
verify the files in the target disk.
Warning: All existing data in the floppy disk will be deleted.
Note: If using Win2000 and WinXP, an error message may appear after running the executable
file. Press Ok, then confirm you want to retry the operation. This error will not prevent
the operation from being correctly executed.
1. Insert floppy disk #1 in the PC’s disk drive, run “Pa1X_res_[nnn]_Dsk1.exe”, then
follow the instructions appearing on the screen.
2. Repeat the above procedure with the remaining five disks and the
“Pa1X_res_[nnn]_Dsk[2…6].exe” executable files, to create all six backup disks.
Please label your disks, to easily identify their order while installing the Musical
Resources.

and then....

1. Insert the first floppy disk into your Pa1X’s floppy disk drive.
2. Go to the Pa1X Disk > Utility page and select “Full Resource Restore”, then press
Execute. The source device will appear.
3. From the Device pop-up menu, select “FD” as the source device.
4. When the backup file (“.BKP” file) appears in the display, select it and press the
Restore command. A message will appear, asking you to insert Disk #1. Press OK
to confirm.
5. Wait until the first backup disk has been loaded. A message will appear, asking you
to insert the following disk. Insert the second backup disk and press OK.
6. Repeat the same procedure with the following backup disks. When the last backup
disk has been loaded, the backup data is restored into the internal memory, and
Pa1X will automatically go to the Style Play mode.
7. At the end of the Restore operation, turn the Pa1X off and then on again.
