Saving Separate Styles

Ok, I have owned my PA1X for about 2 weeks and am beginning to figure out how to make use of the OS. I have several "sets" of styles which contain some styles I would like to use but I want to separate several styles from the set and discard the others. I need to save the ones I need someplace where I can eventually put them into the songbook. I can't find anyplace in the manual or figure out how I can do that. I thought perhaps on my PC but the individual styles don't show up - only the "set" can be seen.

Hope this "newbie" question doesn't bore everyone.

Load the styles you want in user1-3 places and then you can save them very easy with the normal saving procedure. (use the search function and search for saving set)

Does that mean I can save the set to User areas 1, 2, or 3 and then from there save each individual style (not the set) to the hard drive?

Hi Hammer

No, you cannot save individual styles to disk, but you can load individual styles to any location on the keyboard and hence build your own personal on-board style database. The terminology is sometimes confusing, however "write" is associated with the SDD and "save" is associated with disk (HDD or diskette).

So if I want to build a custom Songbook say for songs from the 1930's and use jsut a few styles from a set of styles that is possible?

You can save individual styles to disk but it doesnt work like on YAMAHA.
You can save only one style but each style will be its own set.

Hi Hammer,

If the styles in the source .SET all use factory sounds, then OPEN the .SET file (do not LOAD it), select one style, hit LOAD and you will prompted for a user style location. Then go back to the list of styles in the source .SET file and select another style, and repeat the process until you've filled your user style banks in the way you want. You can also load and merge files from multiple source .SET files by following the same process (ie do not LOAD the .SET file, but instead OPEN it and load individual styles one at a time).

But (and it's a big BUT), if any of the source .SET files require the use of custom user samples, then you will get into difficulties managing the loading of the user samples and the changing of the patch numbers in every style that uses user samples. My advice is either to stick to sytles that use factory samples, or else wait for my buddy MickB to complete the development of his utility program that will solve this problem.

Hi Robert

A big thanks to you - exactly what I need to know. I have been trying to build up my Songbook for gigs. Takes some doing at first. I have noticed on some of the styles there is a number it says in already in use. Is that the number you are referring to? So far everything plays as expected from my songbook.

I have been using a Yamaha PSR3000 - this is a lot different in the way the OS works. I play mostly Senior Gigs and usually setup my gig books by years - 30's songs, 40's songs etc.. I read everything from lead sheets and I have a lead sheet book for each gig setup I use. Works great for me.

I played my first gig with the PA1X last week - worked really great and everyone seemed to enjoy the new keyboards sound.

Hi Hammer,

No I don't think we are taking about the same thing. FYI. There is a "Global" menu option that causes MIDI patch numbers for each track to be displayed. That is the number I am referring to. When you are in Style Edit mode, you have the option for each track to choose the sound (either a factory sound or a user sound). If the style uses user sounds then you will get into difficulties managing your style/ sound library.
