Zero 8 Vist 64 bit drivers
Hello, I called Korg and asked about support for the Zero 8 using Vista 64 drivers and I was told at the present time there is no support and they do not know when it will be.
I also talked to HP where I brought my Vista 64 lap top and in order to run some 32 bit on a 64 bit you would need to buy Vista 32 blt and do a clean install (wipe your heard drive)...no thanks.
I was told that In time, it would be more support for Vista 64 bit programs, until then...whenever, we just wait....but don't hold your breath.
We can send out a plea for someone to write audio asio drivers for Korg Zero 8 for Vista 64 please.
Peace & blessings.

I currently have Vista 64 and can't believe there are STILL no 64-bit drivers!

The issue of 64 bit drivers has been over many times.
One of the problems is that there is no incentive for developers to make or release 64-bit drivers.
Windows Vista 64 requires al 64-bit drivers to be 'digitally signed'. you know when you install a device and it says sometimes 'this driver is not digitally signed. Do you want to continue anyway?'.
Its basically a process that microsoft came up with in a form of quality control - the company wanting to release 64-bit drivers has to pay microsoft a lot of money just for them (microsoft) to check the drivers over and 'digitally sign' them, in order to stop that message from coming up. in the case of Vista64 - it doesn't even let you install a driver if it isn't signed!
Furthermore, 64 bit drivers have to be developed on a 64-bit computer running a 64 bit operating system - i.e. XP64 or Vista64 or soon Windows7 64-bit. They may have been around for a while but uptake is slow and drivers for many devices are unavailable. A lot of people and companies are sticking to 32 bit or buying 64 bit machines with 32 bit OS versions because the drivers aren't available for their hardware for 64-bit. You see a recursive problem here? Its Catch 22.
Not saying that I don't want to see 64 bit drivers - I have a wonderful 64 bit laptop here but i'm stuck using 32 bit because I can't get drivers for most of my devices for XP or Vista 64. Its just the reality of the problem.
Macs don't have this problem fortunately - they have supported 64 bit for ages and have a 32-64 bit bridge system built in to allow 32 bit drivers and programs to work regardless.

all the info you posted is already well documented. There's nothing really new there. Although, the " it doesn't even let you install a driver if it isn't signed!" can be overriden via a cmd line.X-Trade wrote:The issue of 64 bit drivers has been over many times.

Not to sound pompous but IOW, - WE KNOW.
But that excuse was good in 2001, not today and NOT for the future.
I'll still stand by my initial post...

I know a lot of this information is already know, but the real point I should have stressed more is that it costs 'a lot' of money - the driver manufacturers have to pay microsoft to have their drivers signed.
hence the lack of incentive.
This is also the excuse that Alesis used for 64-bit drivers for their mixers and interfaces, although I believe now they have (finally) released 64 bit drivers.
