Diego - Mar 08 - Marmix
Hi!
Yesterday night, at about 2 o'clock, I bounced my March entry: http://www.madinitaly.com/Diego-Mar-Marmix.mp3
Once again, it's quite short, but I'm really proud of it, because I'm experimenting something I never done before, so everything (from sounds to style) is a challenge for me.
Finally, I've got tell you that I'm so sorry about my very little partecipation to discussions in the OSAM section.
BTW, I'm so happy I joined that contract: to be honest, I spend a few hour a month to write my music, but it's still something.
Hope you'll enjoy the listening,
Regards

Sounds so sweet.
Cool bassline and such a nice lead. Well done with the pitchwheel for that authenticity it gives. One thing you might concider adjusting, is the "snap" sound a little. Perhaps a bit too loud for my taste.
Just a tiny suggestion, but in total i loved this! (altho a bit short)
Good Job!

Hi Pecca!!
Yeah, "shortness" is my signature for that OSAM
I'm using that OSAM to put togheter some sort of short demo-tunes, experimentig with different things I've never done before...
Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen to it!
To be honest the bassline does not sound new to my ears, maybe it's seomthing similar to Dream Theater, but it's a lot of time I don't listen to their songs, so it should be some resident memory into my mind...By the way I don't care about that, it liked me and I used it.
I recorded the lead on a MIDI track, without any live controller (pitch or mod whell)...
Than, on a separated MIDI track I triggered back the recorded lead line to the Yammy and recorded just controllers.
I find it a good way to add liveness to the line.
Do you think it's too loud? Do you ear any distorted sound?
The main bus went over the 0dB just a few times, but after the mastering process it seems to be a little more gentle.
What do you mean with "Snap" sound?
Regards,

Diego, way to go man. So happy you posted this. See how great these deadlines can be!! I like the lead and the bass together. The lead reminds me of Jon Luc Ponty (sp?) or some electro jaz thing. Yet it sounds a bit hip hop, though in a more jazzy way, sort of urban art maybe. I like how the lead turned out. You have a nice touch there. I think even if you give us these short little experiments, that you can maybe still benefit from this year's OSAM, trying new things is freedom and also it keeps your focus on doing new music even if the pieces are not big productions.

You had to know I'd love this!
So smooth, that EP panning side to side, and that bass...wow!
Nice!

Hi!
You can't imagine how I'm feeling grateful for being so patient and kind with me!
It really means a lot for me to know that I've got write something, so I'm very happy to be into the OSAM although I've got so little free time for making my music.
I've nothing to hide, I must admit that ALL sounds come from S90ES Presets!
I've been inspired by a combination: I started to gig, something nice was coming out, so I found the way to go.
All instruments have been recorded on their own tracks, to have more control over the mixdown, added some sound effects, the arpeggiator...then mixed and mastered!
Yes George, I intented this tune to be some sort of electr-hip-jazz-lounge-smooth
Thanks Stephen, every time I visit my S90ES EP section I'm blown away: the sound quality of electric pianos (clavi, wurli, rhodes) is simply amazing on the yammy!

This is a great little piece. The beginning gives us a good bed for the chord structure and percussive elements. The sound effects are good, but seem to leave even quicker than they come in. Given the length of the song, that would be understandable, but more on this in a bit.
The lead sound is wonderful. Perfect for the environment along with the secondary arp sound in the back.
On the musical side of things, this song would have been perfect for creating a nice repetitive lead through a verse or two and then take off with that nice solo you created. The effects would have been a nice way to introduce the solo as well, just as is. That would add another two minutes to this track rounding it out perfectly.
But I like what you have done, and understand the experimental nature of your tracks. I have nothing to add with regard to the production because other than being short and missing a catchy lead, the performance is dead on and the recording is crisp and easy to listen to.
I will give more listens later on.

I'm in the wrong group....anymore...
Is there a beginners group here somewhere...?
This is jus, ...nice!!! and a cool sound...very nice song effect, but it could indeed have been more arranged for the solo sound later...a lead as Jon said to this by repetition would be sufficient..and indeed would have added needed time...no point in beating an already faster horse...Will re check my impressions..
Great work as usual...Enjoyed it very much..(more after a few listens)
My Regards, John (ellll)

What a great groove,
I could listen to this for hours, knowing that each phrase would develop into something slightly different, love the lead.
Great use of space in the track too.
I'm not going to say it's too short again
Night music - I can imagine driving through the night with this playing in the car, it has a great relaxing mood.

LOL ... you and Lorenzo are just so "Italian" ... everything you do is so dramatic or very cool/relaxed ... or both in this case !
This is great ! I like Acid Jazz and down tempo stuff like Zero 7, and just like those guys you've taken some classic stylings and added some modern flavours and a little edginess too. Bravo !
Daz.

Hi All!
Thanks a lot for all your kind comments, I appreciate it a lot, and it gives me the stimulation to keep on!
JonSolo, you give us a lot of great advices, I see on other discussion your posts, and I think they are great suggestion to grow up our skills!
)
Thanks Elll and Chordial!!
The intentent, other than the experimental side of the track, was to find the right groove to relax but to the recharge batteries for a long run
It really interest me a lot to know how italian are seen outside our contry and outside Europe

I'm not a great composer of Song, I search for emotions and soundscapes with no words, that's my fault...And I'm sure that learning to think before start writing and give a bit of "structure" should do the trick: I promise I'll work on that direction. On the musical side of things, this song would have been perfect for creating a nice repetitive lead through a verse or two and then take off with that nice solo you created. The effects would have been a nice way to introduce the solo as well, just as is. That would add another two minutes to this track rounding it out perfectly.
Please, can you explain what you mean with that (excuse me for my bad english comprehensionI have nothing to add with regard to the production because other than being short and missing a catchy lead, the performance is dead on and the recording is crisp and easy to listen to

Well, I didn't say the thing about Italians, but I did relate to the statement. I think people view Italians as very expressive with their hands and voices especially as that is where opera comes from. That's my outside impression.
