pa500

Post by maintech »

Hi OmarNoori,

I have just purchased the pa500, but as a newbie player I'm not really qualified to compare it with other Korg keyboards. My background is with older organs, so I'm thrilled with the sounds and styles of the pa500. I rented the Yamaha PSR S700 for two weeks then the PSR s900 for six weeks and also tried the pa 800 in the store. I loved the easy Yamaha interface, but quickly tired of the backing sounds, that to me came across as if they were recordings, rather than active backing.
The style backing is important to me because I have two organs that are lacking in this area, an Eminent 2000 theater (non midi) organ, lovely draw bars, tibias etc, but terrible orchestral sounds and cheesy accompaniments, the other is an 'orphan' Hammond ex1000 (midi in/out), great draw bar sounds, but again ghastly orchestral and accompaniment sounds. I intend to use the Hammond as an extension of the Korg, so that I'll have three keyboards and the pedals as my options for music making.

My son owns a Roland G 70 that suits his needs, he sings live at gigs, but he just loves the Korg realistic backing effects and is waiting for me to master the loading of styles on my 'board so that he can try to modify and load them on his.

My only beef is with the Korg manual, I find it difficult to follow each of the processes, especially when looking for examples of typical tasks like loading new styles or sounds into the various banks, and especially when dealing with the dreaded 'Global' function. I hate to admit how many times I've said 'yes' to a 'Global' and found that I've screwed up the defaults. That means a reload of the factory settings.

I intend to persevere and when I have I'll try to produce a simple, easy to understand version of the manual's difficult pages.

If you can rent a 'board for a few weeks, you can quickly find out if it's for you.

regards
David
