microKontrol hardware failure :(

Post by sclist »

Hello everyone,

Last weekend my Korg microKontrol packed in. Sometimes, when I moved the faders quickly it crashed, resulting in having to unplug it and to reinstall drivers. Last weekend it happened again, but the controller wouldnt start up properly since. After turning it on, only one or sometimes all lights above the knobs come up, but are very dim. The midi sync LED doesnt blink .. and its not recognised as a USB device .. so definitely dead. (same problem using the DC powersupply)

if someone has an idea what it could be, fried chip, or merely a power issue please let me know .. I may check the power supply unit of the board for gone caps.

also it doesnt seem to be worth getting it fix .. first post, gutted :(

Some people have found that simply opening the MicroKontrol up and re-plugging in the internal cables into their sockets again has fixed similar problems to this. I've been watching discussions like this and noting them for if or when my MicroKontrol starts doing it.

If your unit is out of warranty, it's worth a try. If it's still under warranty I recommend returning it for a replacement/refund.

Cheers, Graham
