is it possible to turn a wav file into a sty file so it can later be converted to work with psr styles?

Hi Afgprince818,

Yes it is very much possible to covert a .wav file into a style file on the Pa800.

(From a post by Nedim on the forum)
Go to SOUND MODE, click RECORD and you are in SAMPLING MODE. After that click MENU and select TIME SLICE, once in there on the dropdown MENU hit LOAD and locate the WAVE FILE you need. After LOADing nothing happens yet if you press a key, in TIME SLICE MODE Adjust the MEASURES PARAMETER to how many MEASURES the FILE is and after that hit SLICE. Hit the dropdown again and hit SAVE, sellect a location which has to be one of the USER BANKS and save it. Get out of SAMPLING by hitting RECORD again and go to STYLE MODE.

In there hit RECORD, choose NEW or CURRENT STYLE and once in there hit MENU and sellect IMPORT, it brings you straight to GROOVE. In there you already see the available GROOVES, choose the one you like and under that choose to which STYLE ELEMENT it goes and EXECUTE.

IMPORTANT:
This will only work before the synth has been SHUT DOWN after saving the LOOP in SAMPLING MODE since TIME SLICE info wont stay there if not used in any STYLE, all the LOOPS after that will only be regular SOUND PCGs!!!

As far as conversion of this style to play on PSR is concerned, to the best of my understanding and the recent issue regarding the non-availability of file information from Korg may not allow the conversion. But ofcourse, this can be confirmed by some expert on this forum.

Regards,

Umair

Hi,

Before you go and look for some1 with a pa800 I gotta tell you that you CANNOT convert pa800 format styles to psr at the moment!

And even if you could that only will convert drum kit mappings from korg to yamaha. Conversion is only for midi events not wav samples!

No wave can be converted into a style, people sometimes mix terminologies.
Not even PA800 can do wave to style, STYLE is one thing and LOOP is another thing.

Ye I know people need to read a little about general midi and the actual structure of a style in general, because most arranger styles are very similar in structure.

But to answer afgprince818 question, you should keep your sp-505 because by now you should have realised it is not possible to convert wav to styles.

I just wanted to ask you why did you wana get rid of sp-505 anyway?

Having an independent sampler is better anyaway, sp-505 can be a good tool if you know how to use it I have one and it has some cool functions, for example you can timeslice samples exactly the same way you can in pa800 amongst many others!
