Erasing Tracks on D1600

Hello,
I'm trying to delete tracks 1 and 2 on my D1600 and can't seem to accomplish this. I have data on tracks 1-8 and want to totally erase or delete the data on only tracks 1 and 2. This seems like it should be the simplest thing to do, but I'm stymied.
