hiss free zero8s shipping in july
after months of following your debates, i opted to buy a zero8 in canada. i figured that i could find a work-around for the hiss problem, or maybe i'd just be lucky enough to get a unit without it. last thursday i put down my deposit and the order was in.
today i got a phone call from my dealer with "good news and bad news". he said that the bad news was that i wasn't going to get my unit until mid to late july. "the good news is that..." but then i interrupted him. "no more hiss," i said. "exactly," said he.
i don't know what may or may not be wrong with the units that you cats picked up, but korg's na distributor is now warranting to dealers that new units do not have the issue. not sure though that that is an admission of fault in the old ones, could just be marketing.
i'll let you know about the status of the unit once i receive it in four to six.

yup
http://korg.com/service/downloadinfo.asp?DID=1395
so that's the mod/fix....
they think we're dummies or what? I think if we paY so much for a mixer we know noise sign/ratio,
why some uksupport said there will be a mod, I don't call a pdf a mod. they're just a bucnch of ;;:;=;= liars.
they just put what we users founds as "workaround" in a pdf,
wow 6 month to create a Pdf, amazing!!!
but that's not a "digital mixers" general pb:
I just tried a numeric Yamaha and even with low master level there wasn't so much noize..... No need to burn signals...
So this is "normal" according to korg that users needs:
_an additive phone-preamp to get decent phones levels
_an additive preamp to have a correct sig/noise ratio at the outputs
_a calculator to see what's the levels of input..
_ only 2dbs of margin to get no noise.
with the latest hi tech mixer?
also running signal as they said gives us much more risks of clipping the inputs cause we then have quasi no margins.
So if those bunch of liar don't give us a phisycal fix, at least we need a post master gain adjustment for static sound systems.
AND then we reallly need an accurate view of signal levels inDBs.
a 2K $ noisy mixer with no accurate vumetre in Db that's can't be and stay like this. This just looks more like a Playschool game than a pro mixer...

I work for a high profile UK artist and I also own a zero 8. I wanted to implement the mixer into the live show for the artist, but obviously in it's current state that's not possible due to the high noise output. When I emailed korg uk tech support to enquire about the rumoured fix, they said simply:-
"Hi William, I'm not sure where this rumour about a mod to the zero 8 came from but as far as were aware there are no mods for this product here or anywhere else in the world."

okay, so i've now had a couple weeks with my zero8. i wanted to take that time to test out the hiss and headphone output complaints expressed on this board.
for the record, no hiss for me. whatever noise the zero8 does put out comes from the device that i patch into the board. if i put it on an audio or audio/midi setting through the firewire, there is no noise to speak of. i've tested all outputs and nothing.
as for the headphone output level, again, no problemo. i understand that my 7506s are known for working well with low output levels, but that's not what i feel is happening here.
i don't have time to write a full review yet, but i want to say that i am really happy with this unit. it delivers exactly what i want it to and more, and without the hiss, it really is quite amazing.

canada. my dealer had none in, and i had to wait four weeks for the distributor to receive it and ship it over.
i am sorry that some of you are dealing with units that aren't functioning properly. must be a real pain in the butt. it would be nice to hear from korg as to what they think is going on with this issue (more than just 'turn your monitors down'). i know that i hesitated buying the unit because of possible issues and korg's non-responsiveness. luckily, my unit is good.
i suspect, however, that at least some of those who are having noise problems are in fact creating the noise themselves by running poor cables between the unit and their monitors, which they have cranked, and further exacerbating their problem by running the signal through a less than perfect amp. the literature that comes with most powered monitors explains that cranking the volume at the monitor stage is a bad idea (alesis says, 'the final stage in the chain is the worst place to make up amplitude').
i understand though, that some have swapped mixers in and out and have noticed that noise output is lower on another mixer. those people are strong candidates for an actual problem. however, it is likely that some of these complaints are due to amateur application of a perfectly good unit.

It's 10 years I make live, I own a 10kw sound sytem, that I cable every party we made during those 10 years, I had 4 differents mixer, sorry but personnally I know when noise comes from a cable or not, the zero is noizy, maybe new units are not, but mine is, and it seems all the first one are, there wouldn't be so much complaints otherwise. I don't think people here are dumb as you say...(not a personnal attack
)
we were beta tester and new users might have a cheapnoize gate or a mod so they won't complaints, and after a year Korg did nothing for us.
F U C K U K O R G
maybe we havn't the same spec waitings, some claim there is no noize on their units, I would really like to hear...

the question is: do you really have a good unit The auracle??
it's not just a problem of hiss... do you have a problem with the headphones volume? do you have a problem with the vu-meters??
this 3 problems work together.
on bad unit, you have to put the volume master very high to have the headphones and vu-meters working almost good (i think it's still bad but...)
so if you say there's no hiss, i think you are using your mixer as an analogic mixer, the volume master is not so high, like trim on every channel... and can you tell me if other problems are resolved???
