What has the process been for you to do something like this. HAve you tried placing your MID file on a USB thumbdrive and placed it in the Oasys ant then just go to disk check the thumbdrive and just load the file? The manual pretty much summarizes it simply. Just as if you loaded a file into your PC.

HELLO, THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR SUCH A QUICK REPLY.
I HAVE A KINGSTON USB STICK.
MY FRIEND LOADED THE MIDI FILES ONTO THE STICK WHICH INCLUDED DRUMS BASE AND A STRINGS. WHEN i PUT THE USB STICK INTO THE KORG IT WOULD NOT RECOGNISE IT OR PLAY IT.

I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR THE KORG IS NOT RECOGNISING THE STICK? I AM VERY NEW TO MIDI FILES AND WANTED TO DO SOME PARTS FOR MY FRIEND BUT ALAS I CANT GET IT TO WORK.

YOu need to go to the utility tab when you place the USB stick and select SCAN device from the drop down menu. This way you assure that the device has been scanned. Don't think Plug and Pray.

When you eventually get the MIDI file into your Oasys and call it up in the sequencer page as a song, you may have to re-allocate all the tracks to Oasys timbres one by one. Most of my MIDI file tracks come up as Piano, but some of them have random sounds allocated as the Oasys doesn't assign standard GM timbres when using the 'Oasys' sound set. ( You can change the whole keyboard to GM2 in global settings, but that just creates problems elsewhere )

I gave up in the end, it's all too hard. I now play my MIDI fies on a Roland G70 ( that's all it's good for ! ) and use the Oasys for my own songs.

If you find a better way of handling your MIDI files on the Oasys let me know as it's been very frustrating for me.

Good Luck.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for your reply and info. What you described is exactly what is happeneing. I am annoyed and frustrated that the Oasys is not able to play these midi files. What a shame that korg cannot get this right.

I will now look into the Roland that you mentioned and I will let you know.

again thankyou so much for your reply.

Man it's not rocket science all you do is load the MID file into your system and if it doesn't map out as GM then you have the benefit of mapping your own sounds to each of the tracks. If you have an Oasys and cannot even perform this simple task or pick up the book to invest some time in learning the beast then you got the wrong synth because YES you have to read the manual to get the benefit of its features.

Why should the oasys be better than the tritons in this respect. Korg ignored the sequencer and midi file play for their synthesizer series since the early 90's. It's a mistake!

Yes I know how to load and re-map a MIDI file, it's not hard at all but it just takes up time that can be better used playing music. If I want to listen to a MIDI file that someone has sent me or that I have downloaded from the internet, the last thing I want to do is spend time re-assigning tracks on the Oasys just to audition it. It would be nice if the Oasys could easily play back the file without having to remap every track.

I have read the manuals and I can do some great things on the Oasys, but for loading, playing and editing someone elses MIDI files, it's not the best tool in the shed. If I am creating MIDI files from scratch however, then that's another story. The Oasys is the tool to use.

I have to agree with this comment, Rainer. As I mentioned to one of our esteemed members recently, with respect to the sequencer in the OASYS "It's like putting sandals on a champion Olympic runner." Korg Japan needs to really pay heed to those calling for a much more robust sequencer/audio recorder in a flagship workstation such as the OASYS.
