Playing WAV files, AIFF files on the M3 Question

Post by GregC »

Duh. I am stuck

I can load ' some ' WAV files

But where the heck do I play them ? I must be missing a step

I bet its related to playing a SONG in the SEQ mode - but my WAV file is nowhere to be found

My M3M won't load AIFF files either :(

I have stared at the Ops manual- pg 145-147

So I need assistance- I can load the WAV from my USB thumb device. Then what ? Do I sample it ? I simply want to play the WAV file in my M3M

Thanks !

Hi Greg,

Check out my "working with samples" tutorial. It explains everything.

my WAV file is not a sample

Its a song- all I want to do is PLAY the WAV file on my M3

Seems like I have to go thru all the steps to sample it first ?

Seems like overkill. On my Rd700GX, I simply hit the SONG Feature and select it/play it

Greg,
It's been a while since I had that problem, but I seem to remember that the WAV file had to be 48khz not the usual 44.1. So you might try that conversion and see if it helps.

In fact, I think I recall I had to bring some 44 files into Logic and bounce them back out as 48s in order to play them on the M3.

IIRC, the 44 files don't show as playable on the screen, but the 48s do. and no, there's no sampling involved.

I'm not sure if there is an easier way then explained in the tutorial. There might be, but I have not had a chance to mess around with it yet.

You don't have to go through all the steps just to play the file. Just the first four.

I do know that 44.1k files will definitely load since I do that all the time.

If I find anything else I'll let you know.

Although I'm not near an M3 at the moment, here are a couple of possibilities:

In Media Mode, you could use the Make Audio CD tab to select and play a wav file. You don't need to load the file, it plays direct from your media. So it can be any length, not dependent on available sample memory.

You could have several .wav files listed here, ready for instant playing.

Also, if you select a .wav file (on the Load or Utility pages) you can then play it by going to the Edit Wave tab.

jg, you got me in the right direction, thanks !

I figured how to use ' time stretch '. I needed to slow down my WAV file
( to figure out some tunes by ear ) . I was able to greatly slow down the WAV file/song. Of course, the song quality goes down- tremendous amount of ' wavering ' or tremolo

Steve, I can't hack your instructions. I think you should go thru them. You say " open " the file. There is no "open " . How about "Load " ?

And secondly, I don't need to assign the WAV file to a key.

Likely we are on 2 different pages

Hi Greg,

The instructions were designed for the demo sounds that we included so you have to take that into account. The WAV files that we included with the demo are in a "folder" so you have to "open" the folder in order to get at them for loading. Just skip that step if your files are not in a folder and go directly to the load option.

Right. I did not realize what you were trying to do when I first answered your post. I thought you were trying to key map several wav files. That's what the instructions were designed for. I've used them a few times to refresh my memory when key mapping sounds so I'm sure they are set up right, but for your purposes I guess you have to do things a bit differently.

I'm sorry, but I don't know exactly how you would solve the problem or even if you can do what you want to do. Since no one else in the this forum has any solid answers, you might try posting at the Karma Lab forums or call Korg tech support. You might get some answers over there. Korg's tech support is 516-333-8737.

Good Luck!
