Can you record/save your own loops on the Kaossilator?

Post by ashgray »

Can you, or would I have to buy a regular Kaoss pad to do that?

the kaossilator has a very basic loop sequencer that can reach up to 16 bars where you can record what you play. That means you can't load "your own" loops (its not a sampler). The recorded sequence can't be stored. It will only last until you power off.

Actually, you can overdub in 16 or 8 beat modes.

Yes, you can save loops and restore them to temporary memory. As pierlo said, you lose the loop when you turn it off.

However, in the normal 8 beat mode, you can the save loop (called FIX), loop overdub on top of it, and then restore back to the saved loop (called Cancel), and then finally delete the saved loop with Clear. You do this by holding down the loop record button while turning the Knob to the right until you see the commands above. This is useful for having two layers of loops at the same time. Unfortunately, the music stops when you use these save features, so they're less useful for live music. The KaossPad 3 is better for layering with its four sample pad and sampling doesn't stop the music.

You lose the save function when you go into 16 beat mode because the RAM is used for the whole loop, leaving none left for saving.

How long have you guys had you unit turned on?
I'm this close to buying one, btw. If I get paid this week, I'll probably pick one up.
