sampling question

Post by acertainpoint »

hey guys,

I just got my KP3 in about a week ago, and so far I love it. It went beyond my expectations on what I initially thought I could use it for.

Now, I never used anything for sampling, and to be quite honest, I never really thought about getting into the art of it since my music doesnt really require it.

I noticed that the KP3 can sample up to four things at one time, loop and single shot.. and I have no SD card to save whatever I sampled.

So I was just messing around and sampled a beat off my emx-1 up to eight measures to the KP3

i noticed when I have it set under loop and turn it on, it plays continiously...

but is there a way when I have something under the loop function it can restart from the beginning everytime I hit the pad i assigned it to? Or does it always play continiously?

I messed with the one shot function and all that seems to do is play whatever sample I assigned one time and stop.

I just want the beat to start from the beginning yet still loop continiously everytime I hit the pad I assigned it to instead of it always continiously playing.

thanks guys

any answers would be great!

Press Shift + the sample bank you want to be played, then press TAP/RANGE

or give this a try (from the tips & tricks section)
This comes from Electronic Musician magazine (July 07), "Loop Trigger Hack" (pg.87):

"The most confusing thing about the KP3 is the way it handles looped samples. Rather than triggering loops from the beginning when you press a sample pad, it runs the loops continuously in the background."

"If you have four samples of equal length that all start on a downbeat, that design ensures they'll always be synchronized with each other. But it also means there's no way to know which section of the loop you'll hear when you press a pad."

So, we all know that to align playback of samples on the downbeat, you must hold down the 'Shift' key and then press the 'Align' button down on the beat.

OK, but what if you are in a performance situation where you've just loaded up some new samples you want to play along with the current groove? Here's a good way to get around it:

1. First, hold down the Mute button and turn on the sample buttons you want to playback.
2. Then, hold down the Shift button, and simultaneously release the Mute button and press down on the Align button.

I've verified this works like a charm.

(Note: Always make sure you are using the newest firmware update.)

if u have firmware V2 installed you can choose between 4 different trigger modes for any sample. just hold SHIFT and the sample bank you want to mofify. then press the BPM button, and then twist it to choose between the 4 modes. it seems like you need mode 3. or you can do what KaDash! said if you dont want to modify trigger mode and just restart the sample by tapping TAP.
