creating full songs with the KP3

Post by KaDash! »

Hello my friends at KORG Forums.
As you know, there are a few limitations that come with only 4 sample banks available on the KP3 if you want to jam with internal samples.

Here is a nice workaround:
By using each of the 8 slices of the 4 sample banks as full loop itself, you have up to 32 small pattern to create full songs with.

I just uploaded this small pack with 2 kp3 files ready to use on your KP3:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UIJU17OG

Just set the Tempo to 80bpm (this is because of the longer sampling time on lower bpm - the beats originally run at 160bpm  )

By switching different slices on and off, you can create full songs with this beast. I also included a short song which was completely arranged on my KP3.

Have fun with it!

Very interesting tip, KaDash!, thanks for sharing.
I don't own the unit, so I haven't yet fully understood all the functions.
Is it possible to trigger the different slices over midi? If so, it would be a joy to create full songs with just the KP3 & a sequencer - or record a song into a computer in realtime.

Oh, another thing; according to the spec sheet, the KP3 can hold 100 samples in its memory (?).
This should imply there are several banks of samples...? If so, couldn't these then be switched either manually or through a midi program change command?

Q1: I haven`t tried MIDI, so I dont know.

Q2: You can have up to 100 samples on your memory card and the manually load them. If you do so, the Playback of ALL samples stops. Very irritating! Also it takes ages to load a sample. Thats why I am using different slices as patterns.
