MIDI automation in Ableton 7...

Post by stevey_k »

Can anyone help?

I am able to record MIDI notes into Ableton and play them back into the R3 with no problem (over USB connection).

However, while I am also able to record knob movements and play those back, Ableton does not display the automation as a graph on the screen...so there is no way to edit it further! Am I missing something in the connection settings or something here? I clicked "show all used parameters" in the drop down menu on the MIDI channel just to make sure, but it doesn't show anything.

I realise this might be more of an Ableton issue, but the only reason I ask here is because I could record and edit MIDI automation with the knobs on my old controller keyboard without trouble...is there something I'm missing on the R3?

Any help would be most appreciated :D

Hopefully this helps :)

While in Session view, select the midi clip you recorded and make sure at the bottom your showing the clip information (clip, midi, midi notes ect).
there is a little "e" at the bottom of the "clip" section. This unfolds the "Envelopes" section. There are two selections in here, first one should be set to "midi ctrl" (probably is already) and the one under it has all the different possible controls. Any that you manipulated during recording will be marked with a red box. Select one of those and you should see all the envelope data ready for editing.
