Nov 2008 - Organ Battle

Post by Diego »

Hi!

This month I was going to post some arrangments I'm making for my choir...
But yesterday something great happened, and changed my idea.
I was recording a beautiful Organ made by a great friend of mine, and the player was a very talented organist improvising to record some promotional samples of instrument's sound capabilities.
While he was taking a break, I played some notes with Reeds registers and he like a lot my idea...We started playing togheter, and developed a great idea from an improvisation...
So this month you'll hear a great instrument played by Damiano, a great player, developing my own idea (not that great, but "nice").

Unfortunatly yesterday evening it was too late to edit recordings and today I'm at work and don't have my Mac here with me...
Will post it ASAP.
Sorry for this December late, it's the first time I post outside the month's end

Ahah, you bad guys...
I thought you were jocking, but you aren't!!!
I really forgot to post the link to the song!
I feel so stupid for that, consider these days are crazy for me: every night there is a rehearse, or a concert, or what else, and this evening, before I go out, I decided to give a look to the forum, to see if anyone commented the song...But hey, I really forgot the link!!

Here you are, now I hope it worth the wait (even I don't think so  ): http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/224179/Diego_OrganBattle.mp3

If you want, you can see the organ on that article: http://www.laprovinciadicomo.it/stories ... oli/42754/ you can see it in the picture, now it's in Pamplona, in the cathedral.

I must say a huge "excuse me" to the OSAM community, I really feal guilty of a stupid delay.

Ha! Dude this is so sweet it is unbelievable! It was an incredible JOY to listen to this piece.

Pipe organ, while beautiful, can be difficult to listen to. And the talents of this organist truly shine through making it DESIRABLE to sit and listen.

Hats off to you and your idea, and to your friend for the incredible playing!

Whoooo! Hear the sound - that room echo ... ohh man! Whew - gives me chills!

I love the pipes! There is a wonderful pipe organ here in New Haven Ct. I;ve never actually been able to play a real pipe organ. I got my start in music on the keys oh so long ago.

What a treat to have pipe tune in OSAM! This is the best tune you've done so far man!

Its funny, I hear some common elements in the tune from other pipe tunes. This was a trip. I would love to watch the performer !!!

Thanks for a very memorable OSAM tune!

Well, that was cetainly so much fun, and worth the loooonnnnggg wait!!! I just love the sound of that organ. I am so jealous. I know how to play a few perfect hymns for that, like A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, my fav song whenever I set my keyboard to pipes. I would love to try that out on a real instrument. This was just great to hear, and such fingering and fast notes, not easy to play at all.

Hi!

Thanks a lot for all your kind comments, I really appreaciate them!
I'll link that page to Damiano, so he can read what you wrote.

What you're listening is just the recording of the organ, with NO eq, no reverb, just a slight mastering compression.
I recorded it using two Rode NT1-A positioned with 3:1 proportion in front of pipes; two Rode NT5 were about 5mt far from the organ to catch church sound.
The "stage" of recordings was that: http://www.parrocchiacermenate.it/home.asp?sez=8&pag=1, the organ was on the right side of the altar.
I'm sure Walter Chinaglia (the builder of that organ http://www.laprovinciadicomo.it/stories ... oli/42754/) will have nothing wrong if I put online other recordings of the organ made in the same days; BTW, he talked with me yesterday and he saied that the opening concert in Pamplona had been beautiful and they love the new organ!

Once agin, really sorry for the long wait, I was totally convinced about have already posted the song, and concentrated on writing arrangments for the string quartet of the Sunday's concert.

Hello Diego

At last you posted the link!! I love the organ and have been WAITING for it to appear.

Your friend played very joyfully and I could hear how he had fun improvising on your idea.

Sounds like your musical life is very busy indeed - so it's really good that you still found time to record this and put it up for us to hear.

After ellll's organ tunes, I started playing my Triton organ more often, and like George, have a few old hymns that I enjoy playing, one is "O Quanta Qualia". I also wish I could try it out on a real organ :P

The organ looks really beautiful too.

Good luck with all your other music things - hope you get everything done that you have to get done.
