No MIDI signal from knobs

Post by Stenflo »

I connected my microkorg via MIDI with Reason on my Mac. The keys and the modulator and pitch wheel work fine and can be reassigned for different controls on the virtual synths. However, I cannot get any of the 5 knobs to transmit a MIDI signal. How can I get the knobs to transmit MIDI? Should they not automatically work?

Did you buy your MK used? If so, it's possible the previous owner modified the MIDI settings.

Check p. 60 of the manual about setting the CC filter. Make sure CCs are ENABLED. Although if the mod wheel (CC#1) is working the knobs should as well.

Which CC is sent by the knobs depends on the internal parameter you are currently selecting (see p.56 for CC# defaults, p.61 for changing the defaults).

Thanks for the reply, I still cannot get it to work.

I bought my MK new about 6 months ago, but am just now connecting it to my computer. It worked automatically, I can play on the virtual synths in Reason 4, but it doesn't respond to the knobs and I cannot assign any knobs to the Virtual instruments via remote override (again, keys and mod/pitch wheel work great).

All settings are set to ENABLED for the Midi filters as described in the MK manual on p. 60.

I am not sure what settings you recommend for the CC defaults. I do not want to assign a parameter from the MK to the knobs, I just want to be able to control knobs and sliders on the virtual synths from the MK. Is there a parameter setting that regulates Midi values from the knobs? What am I doing wrong here? It appears to me that the knobs are simply not working (transmitting midi)...

It works when I rewire with Logic, so the knobs are sending midi. But I still cannot reassign the knobs in Reason via Remote Override Edit Mode, so I am limited to controlling the knobs which are assigned to the virtual synth by default. Reason does not show any control surface activity when I turn the knob on the MK, even though I can see the slider moving up and down in the virtual synth.

When I look at the additional remote override controls from the MK, the knobs are not listed, only pitch bend, mod wheel, breath, channel pressure, expression, and damper pedal. Is this where the problem is? Do I need to add controls in reason somehow so it can recognize the knob inputs from the MK?
