Loading times ?

Post by Sharp »

Hi Guys.
Can somone please tell me what the loading times are for 256MB of data on the M3.
I'm just looking at all my options here because I may buy one to develop Sample Libraries for it.

Kind Regards.
James.

Hi Sharp,

It's hard to give an exact time because the loading time is affected by the size of the samples. In other words, 256 - 1 meg samples will load faster then 512 half meg samples. I can tell you that in the libraries that I have developed it takes about two minutes to load 60 megs worth of small sized samples. The average sample is way less then one meg. Another factor is if you time slice, further breaking up a sample loop into many parts, that will also slow down the speed.

I have not had a chance to test this, but the USB stick or flash drive that you use to load might be another factor in loading times. Jerry could probably give us more info on that.

My strategy has been to keep my libraries under 64 megs so potential customers will not have to own the expansion board to have access. I would say it would probably take at least 5-6 minutes to load all 256 megs even if your samples are relatively large in size.

Hope this helps!

in other post here (not rembember which one) someone wrote that to start up the M3 Xpanded with the autoload of the 3 EXB-PCM takes about 3 minutes.

each EXB-PCM requires about 64MByte of RAM to load.

About 3 minutes for me, and I have just the standard "EXPANDED" upgrade.

Thanks guys.
That's not too bad at all. Certainly many times faster than a Triton.

Thanks.

I would just point out a IMHO significant difference in loading times.
The M3 loads the factory provided expansions significantly faster than usual sample/multisamples.
So, if you boot the m3 with autoload of all three expansions, it will do it in about 3 minutes. But if you load your own samples with comparable size, the loading time will be nowhere near 3 minutes. It will take more time. That's at least my experience.

Hi Sharp!

Using a USB2.0 memory stick, it takes about 2min, maybe a little more, but not that much.
It loads EXB1,2 and 3; the EXB4 is not on my M3, yet.

right, at equal sizes, loading / saving pcg, sng and ex pcm is faster than loading / saving samples datas

First signs of a Choir Sample Library I'm working on for the M3 :-)
http://www.irishacts.com/m3/choir-preview.mp3

Optimised for the M3, and powered by the same recording sessions I did for the huge OASYS ASSAULT library.

A very rough guess, and I mean very rough, I would guess at around 130MB.
Honestly though it's too soon to say for sure.

Hi Stephen.

Try it again.
I didn't remove the file, so maybe you just caught the server at a bad moment.
