Strange behavior of "local off" mode

Post by Tester »

Then I set local off mode for my m3 ("local control on" button is unchecked in global page) I've been discovered, what in combis ("control surface" screen, "RT Control" page) sliders onscreen are not moving, despite of I moved the "value" slider or JOG or even tryed to move them by finger onscreen, then the arrows "UP-DOWN" is shown. Other controls works normally and moving respectively.
Did anyone encounter the same problem?
Is this a bug or a feature?

If you disable local midi - then yes - you have in fact disabled all local midi functions. This is useful for using external midi sources. If you want to use the M3 controls, then you need to enable local control.

If midi echo is turned on the application running on the PC wouldn't the sliders move? The movement of the sliders should transmit the midi control chanages to the PC and be echoed back so that the sliders would move?

Yes, technically correct, but it can get quite complex in Combi/Seq modes. DAWs will typically "rechannel" the MIDI data according to the track that is selected, or set to record. So probably, the data is coming back to the M3 on a different MIDI channel.

You're right. I think by default most DAW software rechannels midi data. I think that most DAW's give you an option to turn that off though --- either at the project (song) level or at the application level. Maybe that's the whole issue .... he needs to turn off rechannelling.
