$$$ Very important question! $$$

Post by Pr0 »

I've been invited to compose an original 12 tracks cd for MBM, a luxury cars selling company, here, in Portugal. Their site: http://www.mbm-mobile.com/index.php?lang=pt. Take a look and listen to the background looping track. It's mainly Chill-out/House style. :verycool:
My question: I don't have a clue to a final price, since I've never done anything like this. I need your help... badly! [-o<
A really appreciate it.
Thanx.

Pr0

P.S. Right now, I'm bound to make a demo.

If it was me, and based on the going rates in my area I'd probably go back with a price of 500 Euro per song. This is slightly below the going rate, but since it's 12 songs I would be offering them a deal.

This is for music only. No vocals.
If they wanted singing then the price would go up considerably, more than twice the price.

For example, the going rate for a Radio Jingle that lasts 30 Seconds with Singing is 900 Euro.

Regards.
Sharp.

Don't bid too low either - esp. if others are involved. You won't get a deal if all your competitors bid twice as much as you do, because they won't believe you can deliver for this price as promised.

Exactly +1

There's always the worry of underbidding which can leave them with the worry that the final product will not be of the quality they require if your too cheap. Be confident in your work and go in with your price based on a “Per Song” basis as that leaves it open ended for them to decide on how much money they want to spend.

They might go for the full 12, or them might take 8. Either way, 500 Euro per song is a good deal and it is slightly below the going rate.

Regards.

Well, I think I'm solo on this one. The marketing director is an old friend of mine and he would have told me if there was a cotest involved. So he picked me, because he already knows my work.
Anyway, this is way to overwhelming!!! I mean, for a first timer... :)

Working for friends can always be difficult.
I'm sure though he expects to pay for the skill it takes to write 12 songs. Don't underestimate the workload behind all this either. You need to be turning out 1 song every 2.5 days to just come in just behind the standard rate.
