Namm 2009 and Oasys
Hi Everyone
Are there any regulars of the forum attending NAMM this year ? I wonder if the Oasys is being displayed at the show and if it is, what Korg's staff at the show's official response to 'the big question' is ?
Hopefully we can get an update from the show and finally put to rest all the rumours that have been discussed here.

I've been there and saw these new products, tried out some of them, the usual thing.. This year, I just didn't have the time or the need to bring out some special gear since most of the companies warned me that they're not gonna have anything HUGE but only pre-announcements for announcements for some future stuff so - I just took their word. And I had loads of meetings and almost no time to cruise around to do the usual. The same will happen tomorrow.
I would assume that everyone's being pretty careful about their future product announcements and R&D costs because the situation is not good. I would've also assumed that this would be the perfect opportunity for many companies (KORG included) to take out something special from their sleeves. At the time of crysis, I would guess that just then it's the perfect time to display funky stuff you've been working on. I've seen it done by a couple of companies at CES. They got unbelieveable amount of visitors and press attention - compared to previous years, of course, when their booths were half-empty. CoolIT seems like a perfect example. I have loads more, but let's leave that on a side for now.
Overall, this year's NAMM show shows significant decline in terms of visitors, as did CES in Las Vegas as did (in particular!) MacWorld last week. I mean, I can park a car right in front of the entrance to the fair without having ten drivers behind me going *honk* *honk* on me. Which is a bit different to what I'm used to, but... I digress.
I will post some booth tours later, KORG booth included, so you can see it for yourself - it's as nice as it was last year. So are some other companies'. We should see some more interesting news tomorrow, though. Stay tuned.

It was my understanding that Jordan Rudess was suppose to be doing a product demo for Korg this year and was suppose to be using an oasys.

I figure that he will also be playing with the Nano series boards but that is just a guess.

Rick

Didn't Jerry say on this forum that Korg had some amazing announcements to make at this year's NAMM? I was actually convinced they would announce a strategic link-up with a major DAW company or some similar significant major shift in how they do business. Certainly Jerry indicated somewhere in writing that amazing things were afoot.
As an aside - Roland's VP770 looks like a little stunner. This thing will astound wrt vocal design, even beyond the VSynthGt. So this is one very bright development from the 'other side'. If Jordan Rudes VP550 demo from a few years back is anything to go by, expect him to do some very funky stuff with the VP770. A very, VERY exciting little instrument. It'll do what it says on tin, with customary Roland electronic-vocals 'beadth-taking' results.
Kevin.

Thanks vEddy !
If I could them ask them a question it would be : are you still making the Oasys ? That is a little unclear at this point. I think, given what I spent on this, that crumb of comfort is deserved.

I will wait till the NAMM 2009 ends. But if there won't be any announcements or hints concerning some developments for the OASYS-Sequencer, I will order immediately the new ObenLabs MiKo-LXD with the new KARMA-OL !!!
The OASYS-88 with the ObenLabs MiKo-LXD and KARMA-OL will be a great fulfilling setup!!!
I do not have the time to wait any longer for KORG developing a better OASYS-Seq, because I have to create music NOW!!!

That would be my biggest question too -- though they just launched a redesigned website, and the Oasys is still there, so why would they continue to advertise a discontinued product?Daz wrote:Thanks vEddy !![]()

One thing I found nice about the updated Korg site, incidentally, is that they have links to all kinds of third-party resources -- this forum, Stephen's forum, Peter's blog, etc. etc. Nice of them to acknowledge the community.

Are you continuing your support of the Oasys? (And not just manufacturing new ones, if at all they are...)
Paul: Don't be nervous.
