Pad Motion Question

Post by pcompton »

I just got my kp3 yesterday and I am in love. However, I can't figure something out, and I'm sure it is horribly basic so feel free to lampoon my idiocy. When using the pad, how do you save the sounds you make? How do I save the drum beats into a loop or the synths? Also, how does one record a pad motion created beat and then change instruments to play synths over it. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I've scoured the manual and for some reason just can't figure it out. Also, are there any good guides to the beast, a user created guide for example. I tried searching the forums and could not find anything.

Thanks,
Sam

solution 1:

use resampling. when you resample, the full output of the kp3 (ie. whatever you hear in your speakers/headphones) is recorded. so hit resample (SHIFT + SAMPLING), choose the length of the loop in beats (by turning the BPM knob), hit one of the four sample banks and start messing with the pad.

solution 2:

press PAD MOTION and hold it. the moment you touch the pad the recording will begin. when you take your finger off the PAD MOTION the recording will end. but you cant record more than 7 seconds or smth. this doesnt record any sound at all, just your motion over the pad. after that you can use resampling to convert the motion loop into an audio loop. this is tricky somewhat since the motion loop length can not be snapped to beat (another korg mistery...) so when resampling, if the length of the motion loop is slightly shorter than the N beats you want to record, you'll have to press the MOTION PAD button just before the motion loop is retriggered to turn it off and prevent the start motion data being recorded again at the end of the audio loop. or you can record a slightly longer motion loop (just a fraction of a second longer) to begin with.
