Kontrol 49 as an MPC

Post by tsoafa02 »

My brother just got an MPC and is trying to convince me to get one as well. I believe however that I can use the control pads in the same fashion as an MPC. Does anyone know if you can chop samples and use the pads as a drumkit the same way you can with an MPC?

Its a midi controller, it is just a way of inputing data, how that data is interpreted is up to you, depends how far you want to go, probably best to stick with whatever software you have and work hard to learn it. I would use the pads for triggering sounds and use the your mouse and some editing software for chopping your sounds/ processing etc. Work at creating a work-flow that is efficient for you and choose software that helps with this. Work hard to master your gear. Learn to love what you have and make your brother envious because he chose an MPC instead of the superior padKontrol and computer setup.

You are best off using your equipment the way it wants be used and not waste many hours trying to get it to be an MPC (copies of something are always pale compared to the real thing). If you want something to work just like an MPC, you need an MPC, buy it because you like the way it works/sounds and not because of some 'cool' factor.

That was my point to him. I haven't even mastered everything I can do with the K49 so there's no point for me to go out and buy new equipment. I'm comfortable with the software I use and it works for me. Really, I was just curious about if it could be done at all.
