EA-1..weird problem with delay effect when unit is slaved

I get this bizarre warbling effect when I use the delay of the EA-1 when slaved to another machine. It happened to the ES-1, and now it's happening to the mpc. It sounds like the delay time is constantly slowing up and slowing down and creating this "warble" or sick sound.

Anyone know what's going on here?
