So I bought an r3. I was wondering if I need to buy anything else to produce a full sound such as a MIDI/drum machine? Also what is compatitible to the r3? I am really eager to use and get my creative juices flowing!!

Get the creative juices flowing? Play a guitar!

There are many, many more qualified people on this site to take a stab at this very general question you are asking but I'll give it a shot.

I think I know what you are getting at here- when you have basic beat going then you can be "free" to create melody on the R3. I'll assume you have a computer since you are on the forum so a cheap solution is to download something like Ableton Live which allows full operation in Demo mode (demo means you can't save your work). They have a simple tutorial on creating beats, and you can loop them, layer them, play with virtual instruments etc. This is all just to get the creative juices flowing so to speak, and hopefully they will upon improvisation.

If you want to save any work then you of course need to make a little bit more of an investment.

The kaossilator is not many things, but one things I have found it is great at is getting the creative juices flowing with its simple loop functions and easy layering of beats- not a free solution though. For pure beat looping, anything beyond getting the creative solutions flowing would require a midisync to nail down the timing.

Juices flow the more you play, so have fun!

Hello. Vibedog has offered some good suggestions. Another inexpensive option is to get a good ol' drum machine. You can get them pretty cheap these days. There's been a shift from drum machines over the years but I still use mine from time to time... 8)

I just bought an Alesis SR-18. It's the best drum machine for the money, IMO.
