Computer and Electribe connection, again!

Post by wojtek_konrad »

hello Everyone,

I know that this topic appeared few times, but I must be not smart enough or something 'cause I cannot connect properly my computer ( Macbook) with my Electribe SX.
Would you please write what is the best way to do so? Is it better to use MIDI/USB cabel or simply use Audio In jack cabel?
I've been trying to use Audio In ( Output from my Mac --> Input Electribe) but once I pressed PLAY in Ableton and Electribe detected BPM of the Ableton it was really hard to play them together because I had to start PLAYING Electribe as well and I found difficult to start my Electribe at the same time as Ableton(had to try many times)
On top of it after few minutes the beat was something like few tenths of a second off to each other.
Maybe it is better way to connect them two with a MIDI/USB???
Can somebody help me with it?
Sorry for my English, but I am not native speaker and sometimes it is pretty hard to explain what I really want to know ;))

Thanks

Kon

hi Kon!

you definitely want to use a MIDI/USB interface to connect to your Macbook. this will result in a very solid synchronization between the two.

the Audio In "Auto BPM Scan" function is really more of a live/DJ tool, and isn't perfect, as you've found. depending on what music is playing, it may not work at all.

so yeah, stick with MIDI/USB and you'll be all set.

you need a decent midi-audio interface i use motu ultralite, but that's not cheap, then you need to connect midi in and out between the interface and the electribe, so the information flows back and forward, basically you ned to make a network, then assign your channels in ableton, and playback, remember to make the settings in the preferences in ableton so is the master and the elec respond as an slave
