Cables comparison

Post by Dj Pound »

Whats the general opinion of Hosa/Live wire cables as compared to say Monster cables or cables from Radio shack???

Ive heard some bad things about Hosa from some people at guitar center, Ironic because i think guitar center sells that brand exclusively, as well as from other bloggers.
Ive used Monster cables in the past, and i cant remember being impressed! Their RCA cables used to have an extra grounding wire attached to them...it was very easy for things to get very tangled and messy really quick.

But believe it or not, radio shack cables have always costed me less and given me some pretty satisfying sound.

The reason im asking is because i should be getting an EMX-1 sometime this coming week, I put my order in today for one :)
So im going shopping for some cables today.

Never had problems with Hosa and I refuse to pay ridiculous sums of money for cables.

If you need cables, make them, don't buy them.

Learning how to make cables is a skill that will pay dividends for the rest of your life. There's no better way to clean up and organize a bunch of cables than to cut them to the right length. You can test them. You can fix them. You can change them. You can make your own adapters. You can make them better than anything you can buy, for much cheaper, in much less time.

Oh, and Guitar Center employees who push Monster(ously priced) cables are the scum of the earth, worse than used car salesmen.

Hey there, I got around to testing my EMX1 on some cables that were very close to Live Wire, I'm pretty positive that they were LW, if not, they're pretty close. Anyway, they sound very very nice through the PA system. Not sure what they sound like through an amp connected to an EMX.

I'm in a band and we gig with Live Wire cables often, and they've held pretty well for us as far as lifespan and sound. My church has been using Live Wire cables for quite awhile now, and they've lasted really long for us and sound really nice. Our church plays through the LW cables every Sunday, and if you think about it, that is a lot of play time for these wires, and they're still kicking today like brand new. LW is very affordable, they sound very nice and will last a long time IF you take care of them well. Just use common sense :) I just bought six of these cables from Musicians Friend and plan to gig with them at our next show this upcoming weekend.

Wow......thats interesting about the wire hanger and the monster cable.
And yeah, ive noticed the outrageous prices they charge for monster cables.
Live wire seems to make better stuff than some people say.

Audiophiles make me laugh man. They can't tell the difference between a half step and a whole step in a scale but they just swear they can tell the difference between cables on their stereo. Whatever though, if they want to stimulate the economy buying $500 dollar cables so they can listen to the latest heavy rotation MTV stuff it's all good I guess.

Word. Live Wire is eternal in the sense that it has a lifetime guarantee sticker on it. Here's what is written on the package:

Live Wire products are guaranteed to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for life. If the cable should ever fail, simply return it to an authorized dealer for repair or replacement.

All you got to do on your part is keep the receipt and take good care of your LW cables. Again, there are better cables out there at much, much higher prices, but most of us are broke musicians (like me) and LW cables are excellent for the fact that they have an awesome warranty, an EMX, as well as a guitar, sounds really good through it, and it is very affordable. I recommend it.
