Pumpkin King - April 09
Alright. I finally got this one finished...well, not really.
I'm just stuck with how to end the song appropriately, so I just faded out the end. But I may just keep it how it is just because I want to start on something else soon.
Any comments or suggestions would be great.

I like how the tinkling things bring interest to the rhythm. I think what you have here is very nice, good change up toward the end. I would do this ending portion much sooner and use it as a chorus, or alternate part then return to the original sound for contrast. Also, this lends itself to lots of sound effects coming in with bpm delays on them, so they pan in from the left and move across the spectrum. There could be space ships flying past or bats wings or birds chirping, whales. But I do think it would add a lot to surprise us with not a lot maybe but certain sounds that come gushing in unexpectedly then fade away echoing. For an ending you could do something entirely different from what you've done so far then fade that, which is sort of what you did. It's just that I liked the ending part so much I wanted to hear more of that earlier on. But we'll see what other comments you get. I do like the idea of moving on to your next piece though. What I often do is use the comments on my tunes for my next project rather than the current, as I hate to keep stuck on 1 piece, that is unless I agree that it has a definate problem that needs fixing. Well done song though. The pads in the background brought to it a nice lush backscape. Do keep at this sort of thing, it's your sound and you will continue to do better and better pieces if you keep up the hard work.

I totally agree with this.georgeinar wrote: I would do this ending portion much sooner and use it as a chorus, or alternate part then return to the original sound for contrast. Just when I started to lose some interest in the nice smooth pads, this cool rhythmic thing comes in, and peaked my interest again, then...it's over.

Over all, I like what you did very much though, especially early in the tune, and at the end.

Regards,
Stephen

Thanks for the quick comments guys.
George - My original plans for the song were similar to your ideas. I was originally thinking about adding random beats and sound effects that would fade in and out, left to right, etc. And, possibly I would use the ending rhythm to do the same thing in the middle of the song. But I'm not sure if I would use that rhythm solely as a chorus early on in the song. I think it'll stay where it's at. Keep in mind, the song really isn't finished. I just needed to conclude it so I could post up the song for comments and suggestions. I really do want to continue that rhythm in the end since I like it too. But I also want to work on something else...maybe I'll work on two projects this May. It's doable.
Steve - Same thing. The song isn't finished, but I may work on it a bit more so I can continue the last section of the song.

I like the ambient vibe here - Its something that I love to do or listen to myself...
I can see that there's no shame taken here in taking your time to evolve the music, something which works really well in music of this genre...
If it were maybe another three or five minutes long, I could easily imagine sitting down with a beer listening to this in 'relax mode'.
