Variations!! and Endings!!!!! on the Pa2xpro
I was fortunate that stephenm52 invited me to his home today to play his Pa2x Pro through his Bose L1. As I played I came to something that bugged me. How come when I switch variations there is no simple fill or transition to the next like Yamaha and some other arrangers.
I can't be the only one to be annoyed by this. I'm sure it could be resolved in a software update. Is there some deeper reason for this.
The other thing I didn't like. While playing the gospel style variation 1 I hit ending 1, 2, and 3 at different time of course and each one had this huge over powering ending as if i was using variation 4. Stephen had mentioned possibly using the 3rd ending thinking it may be quicker and the most mellow. Why is this like this?
These things are not a deal breakers but I wonder why it's like this and if Korg has a technical reason for both of my gripes.
Thanks Steve for being so gracious and rolling out the red carpet.

Thanks Michael, although my keyboard skills may be decent, it's my voice that needs the workmikey_maestro wrote:Maybe with years more practice, I'll be half as good as youstephenm52 wrote:Michael, It was great having you stop by and even better to hear someone else play the Pa2x live.

Mikey,
under the style play-controls, you can assign what you want the fill function to do. For example, each of the fill's can be programmed to either fill to a specific variation (1,2,3,4), or to fill to variation UP or Down. Personally, I think this is a better solution than having a multi-functional variation button with an extra Auto-Fill button like on yamaha and roland.
Donwload the manual from Korgpa.com and go to page 101 for an in-depth explanation!
As far as the endings go, what OS version is Stephen runing? I thought that Korg addressed this issue in the latest OS. If not, this can be modified in style record just by lowering the expression for a particular ending.

Hi Hitman,
you sometimes have to be a bit careful changing expression in an intro or ending. Some of them have fade ins & fade outs on certain tracks , so you have multiple expression controller 11 in these tracks. You could end up with a strange jump in volume.
On a couple of occasions , I've altered the velocity of all the tracks in a particular ending where altering expression may have caused a problem, ie the style had a fade out.
Easy enough to do, hopefully I'm not affecting something else by doing that.

Hi Mikey
But these are all personal preferences - I have the Yamaha still and I have to switch OFF the auto fill feature - but I guess it is what you get used to eh?
I think that regarding the "Endings" you need to study them and remember the "big" ones vs the "light ones". I find that some endings are suited to certain Variations - i.e. you have a fuller variation playing and the hit an ending with the similar "fullness".
Anyhow, glad you are happy with your choice and hope we can keep you highly motivated.
Take it easy

This is an interesting question - having the "fill/transition" on the Yamaha was one of the most irritating things for me - I like complete control - I can strongly recommend getting the EC5 pedal which will give you the ultimate control over FILLs, ENDINGs etc...How come when I switch variations there is no simple fill or transition to the next like Yamaha and some other arrangers.

Hi Mikey,
I used to a Technics Keyboard before I switched to korg Pa2xpro.
Pa2x always amaze me with its great functions.
One of the important options missing on pa2x is not having separate intros.fills and ending for each variations and I think having that option will be a bonus on Pa2x.
Allot of cheap keyboards have this function why pa2x not (Question for korg)?
I hope that in new OS korg will add this option for us .

Re: Variations!! and Endings!!!!! on the Pa2xpro
I do not know why, but in Record you can change all factory styles at your own wishmikey_maestro wrote:While playing the gospel style variation 1 I hit ending 1, 2, and 3 at different time of course and each one had this huge over powering ending as if i was using variation 4. Re: Variations!! and Endings!!!!! on the Pa2xpro
As for Yamaha and Korg, they have different architecture of styles and style controls. On Korg they have separated fills from variations and fills can be used as variations when you press button twice so when you program the style you can use intros, endings and fills as variations. It is not a bug or mistake, it's how Korg works, i have Roland g800 and i didn't want to buy Yamaha cause i was annoyed by not having separated fills. It's matter of taste.mikey_maestro wrote: How come when I switch variations there is no simple fill or transition to the next like Yamaha and some other arrangers.

As for endings, it is meant to be used probably after variation 4 (largest variations) after all it can be fixed in record mode.

The clue is that I can soften some of my endings in record mode so I am reading the manual and trying to figure this out !!
Okay so say I want to soften the first ending, I go into record mode and select Element and then ending one, then when I hit start it plays the first ending and keeps cycling the first ending and I adjust all the tracks to where I like it. I then delete current track from the menu, and then record the 6 measures and then save it to my favorites or user, is this the way to do this ???? Or if anyone could walk me through this I would be very grateful because I really would like to be able to soften some of the endings that are just too noticeably louder than what I think sounds right
Thanks and Best Regards
Paul
I will one happy camper if I can set all my endings to where I like them !!

Hi,
don't know if it's the best way of doing this, but I use velocity function.
Pick style
Go to record mode.
Choose the style part.
Go to edit mode.
Select Velocity function.
Check to make sure the correct part is showing top r/h screen ie
All: Ending 1 : cv 1.
Scroll velocity to a negative number.
I usually start with a -5 or -10
Write to a user slot.
If it's still too loud, lower velocity further, I've found -10 seems to work with endings I've done.
Don't forget to adust CV2 as well.
