"Traditional" Sounds
I know it kind of defeats he purpose of having a synth, but I dont want to go out and get another sound module. So I was wondering if anyone out there has been able to make a convincing acoustic piano sound, or flutes or anything that sounds like more traditional instruments?
I found a pretty cool patch that I modified that sounds very close to the strings on the famous melotron from abbey road studios, and Im putting together a nice little set of sounds to load that I'll put up here once I have a decent amount together. But I thought that traditional sounds would be a cool addition as well. Thanks!

Flutes, Organs, even solo strings are easy, compared to creating an acoustic piano sound. the piano is so harmonically complicated that even FM and Additive synthesizers can't make a suitably realistic emulation, although they get much closer than the radias could.
Electric pianos are all the rage though, and Radias excels at them!
by the way are you refering to my mellotron strings patch ('mellotron jam')?

Yeah I read up on it at http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthsecrets.htm and it does seem pretty hard, though not entirely impossible.
I wasnt refering to your patch, but I'd like to check it out! I have the abbey road refill pack for Reason, and I love mixing the Mellotron strings and flutes, they makes an awsome yet eerie sound. If I could get that going on the Radias, then I could use it in live situations....
btw I am still super exited that my Radias is working again, so Im going extra crazy with it to make up for lost time!

well you can find some of my sounds on the download section here at korgforums:
http://www.korgforums.com/?show=1
And i'll sure be releasing more to come. The melotron sound there was based on listening to 'Watcher of the Sky' by Genesis, but doesn't quite get there. then it doesn't sound like other mellotron string sounds either, so I guess its somewhere inbetween.
Anyway, you won't get anything perfect, but a good start is the strings sample in the PCM section for osc1, add some drive or pickup waveshaper, or ring mod, then compressor (actually I prefer the limiter, which i've been using for organs a lot, its very punchy!) cabinet simulator and possibly tape delay, rotary speaker, reverb, or phaser.
my patch also used a very slow LFO routed to the pitch, which adds that great unstable motor detuned character when mixed in with your tracks...

Hello,dr_boehm wrote:Hi cymbaline,
sounds uploaded to this web site.
Ciao, Dirk.
Can you write the link of that download?
I don't know how works this website, because I uploaded some sounds of the R3 and they are in nowhere... maybe it's in the need to pass a very very thick filter...
I don't know, but I'd like to listen your sounds! Is it for radias or R3?
Thnx
