Zero Edit on MacBook wont install

Post by spectral »

OK so I have the Zero 8, and so fa,r about half of it is working. Basically the audio half. I have tried to install the zero edit software and keep getting this error as soon as the installation starts:

"The following install step failed: run preflight script for ZERO Edit for Mac OS X. Contact the software manufactuer for details."

WTF?? I can't really do jack with this mixer until I get that software up and running. I've tried downloading the one off of korg's website and am getting the same error. I love how korg says right before you install it that they "dont fully support the software" UGH.

I've got audio running to the mixer from Ableton which is nice, but the midi clock won't sync when I tell it to use Ext FW. Also, no midi is being transmitted to ableton from the midi channels on the mixer. is the b/c I they aren't set up (lack of zero edit) or some other reason?

A quick call to korg tech support cleared this right up. It turns out that if you have any other korg software installed certain machines, it will cause the installer to not run.

The solution was to rename my old KORG folder, located in applications, to something like "KORG2" and then run the Zero Edit installer. Worked like a charm.

Now the mixer is up and running and I love it! As far as getting the midi to work in ableton, I've got it recognizing the zero and transmitting midi data to it. It's not exactly "plug and play" in that regard, as there are some things you have to make sure are set in ableton:

1. under Preferences -> Midi Sync, select the Zero 8 as a control surface
2. below that is a midi port selection grid- make sure that the Zero 8's PLUG 2 is highlighted for Track, Sync and Remote.

Hope that helps. Still trying to figure out how to get it to read the midi clock over FW...

Or change the permissions of the korg folder.

Right click to "get info"

Now Click the little pad lock in the bottom right hand corner.

Now change all privliges to Read + Write.

Click the pad lock again and it should work.

I spent bloody ages trying to get zero edit to install, i even re wrote the preflight script! However a simple permission change got it fixed in about 30 seconds!!!
