Maxing-out RAM

Post by glenno »

I recently purchased a one-owner Triton Studio 88. The previous owner couldn't put in the time to reveal it's wonders, I think. This keyboard is hardly used...all squeaky clean and shiny - with no issues that I have yet found.
I wish to max-out the RAM, and have read quite a lot about how and what. As a consequence I need some answers from someone with experience in these matters. So far, I know...3 x 32Mb EDO 60ns 72-pin non-parity, 11-bit addressing, 16 chips per module.
1) Do Triton Studios actually have 'gold' RAM slot connections? I've read a reference to this, but can't be certain when looking at the slots.
2) How important is 'gold-to-gold' RAM connection? I've read about and understand the gold-to-tin corrosion issue. Is mixing gold with tin a huge issue, or simply 'magnified' in order to sell gold-pinned RAM, as opposed to tin-pinned?
3) Is RAM that is sold 'new', actually old, but un-used? Or, is all suitable RAM probably used (rescued from old computers)?
4) What voltage is correct? I see 3.3v and 5.0v offered.
5) Any other information which is useful to know when maxing up to 96Mb.
I'm in New Zealand, and need to get this correct first time, as returning unsuitable RAM to a seller on the other side of the world is not easy.
GREAT forum, by the way. I've learned a lot! Thanks :D

Hi glenno:)

http://cgi.ebay.com/96MB-MAX-RAM-MEMORY ... dZViewItem this is the kind of ram your's looking for. My ram in the Triton Studio is Silver - and has worked fine for over 5 years. It might be better to get it from someone advertisibng it as "Triton RAM expansion chips", rather than search for your own - as you may get the ewrong ones!, but Crucial ram should sell it. Long time since i went on the search for my Ram, and can't even remember were it was from - but i think it wass http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listmod ... family=FPM

Hope you find it, as the Triton studio is (IMO) one of korgs little Gems :D
