Punching in on audio tracks....

Post by UCanDream »

Hey all,

Is it possible to "punch-in" on an audio track?

This is my scenario: I have an audio track that is only about ten seconds in length. Instead of using another set of stereo audios I want to punch-in after the existing audio on the same tracks. Just to make sure I am clear to you all imagine this: I am recording a song similar to Dueling Banjos where each instrument takes turn with it's own phrases. I will run out of audio tracks WAY to soon if I cannot punch-in as opposed to having to record 16 tracks (effectively, 8 in stereo in this case) because there are too many...shall I say, dueling phrases.

I searched the forum and the search sends me in so many different and unrelated directions that I needed to post it here. Sorry if this is a redudndant issue. But I sure didn't find it anywhere.

Oh hey, I just thought of an idea right before hitting the "submit" button. Maybe I can merge audio tracks to continue freeing previously used audio tracks...? Yes? No?... Im gonna go try it. I'll look for responses in the event that it doesn't work.

Thanks.

You can punch in on audio tracks - I use auto punch-in regularly for my application. There is one point to watch, though, if you've not discovered it already. If there is a tempo change anywhere between the song start measure and the punch-in point, you will have to start the re-recording session before the punch-in point to ensure that the tempo change is recognised.

Hope this works out for you.

As far as I remember you can do both: punch-in and merge - depending, on what you prefer.

Yup,

You both are right... I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. But when I went back and tried again I didn't think I was doing anything different but it worked just fine. Thx guys.
