Hi all,
As an effort to place additional information regarding Step Backing Sequence Record Mode in to the Search Data Base. I have finally discovered a way to make the Step Sequence Section easier.

Program a Midi File normally in BIAB or whatever computer based Midi Notation Program you use.

2) Copy the file to a floppy disk and place it into the Pa1x.

3) Enter the Sequence Section. Press the select button on the transport bar and choose the FD (Floppy Disk).

4) Enter the Step Backing Sequence Section and choose the style you want the song to play in. (located at the top of the screen)

4) Go to the bottom of the screen and select the Intro, Variation and whatever Fills you want, through out the song tap the measures right arrow to move through the song. {/niftybox}

NOTE: DO NOT ENTER CHORDS ON THE CHORD SECTION LINE OF EVENT RECORD WINDOW

Press Done to exit the Step Backing Sequence Section and enter the Sequence Song Play area and presto!! You can mute the tracks you do not want.

Tap or touch the screen at the top right corner and save the file to disk or hard drive.

A song with Pa1x sounds and drum style sequences. This has taken the Pa1x to a hold new level for me.

NOTE: I use the “Band In a Box” program instead of using the Pa1x Step Backing Sequence in order to type chords on a full screen (Computer Monitor). This resolved my dilema I had with Korgs Step Sequence and how entering the chords became such a task. Anyone wanting to Step Record should look into purchasing a copy the “Band In A Box program”. This programs unique technology of placing chords into a real lead sheet format is great.

Hi Jeff,
can't really work out exactly what it means, but it did jolt my memory on a method I used to use many , many years ago , midi-ing BIAB to a Roland RA arranger module & my Disklavier midi acoustic piano.
Being acoustic the piano used to be a pain for triggering chords on the arranger module. I used to end up with a chord clunk, because unlike a digital piano, the chord sound couldn't be muted on an acoustic midi piano. Anway I ended up with BIAB playing the chord progression for the arranger module which left me free to just play piano melody L/R hand.

Anyway, I currently have version 2009, and it took me a while to find the function. Fortunately it still does exist.
I ended up with some midi issues with another program called Busker ie using busker as master & korg as slave. Korg doesn't appear to like being the slave.
Whether or not I'll end up with the same problems using BIAB as master & korg as slave will be interesting to see.

Setting up the midi channels etc has been a bit of a challenge.
I think I've just about got it sorted.

The end result if I can get it working correctly will be
Type chord progression into BIAB.
Load a midifile of the melody in into BIAB (optional)
Press play in BIAB.
BIAB plays chord progression ( & optional melody)
Korg plays style parts. User presses variations fills etc at appropriate times.

If I get it up & running I'll do a step by step for the various settings required.

best wishes
Rikki

p.s. just had a thought.
Maybe what the guy was getting at is the style parts could be put into the korg step sequencer, so user doesn't have to press the buttons???
Off to check that out, though might be too much to hope for.

Hi Rikki,

Plse read what the BIAB moderator ( David ) wrote me.
Best regards, Jeff

1) Record them as midi files.
2) use the Style Wizard to create a Style from a Midi File.
3) edit the results.

I would create a sequence with the intro, the main part A,
main part B (if there is one), Ending, all clearly defined
as to which measures they start in.

Then in the BIAB style wizard/create style from midi file,
simply define those measures for the appropriate sections.

I haven't done any of this, but from what dabbling with the
Style-From-Midi I have done, it sure seems quite possible.

It won't be a simple 1-2-3 and you're done process, I'm
sure, but with a little patience and trial and error you
should be able to get it worked out. My advice would be to
do it with a single style and carefully write down all the
steps you do, so you can then somewhat automate it for all
the other styles.

Hi Jeff,
won't give you what you want.

You lose 2 of the accomp. style tracks, plus percussion track.
No intro's & only a 2 bar ending.

BIAB style structure is totally different to arranger keyboard.

I'm fairly certain what I'm trying to do at the moment will work.

Type chord progression into BIAB

Put Korg into Quick Record.

Press play on BIAB, & the chord progression in BIAB gets recorded into Step Record section of Korg.
The variations , fills etc can be pressed in realtime as BIAB plays the chords, or they can be put in, in step time afterwards.

The result can be saved as a midifile & exported into a pc for further editing or adding additional tracks ( could also be done in the korg multi track sequencer)
best wishes

Hi Jeff,
if you decide to give it a go, i'll do up a list of the settings required in BIAB & Korg.

Mines working pretty well. Discovered I can load a midifile ( with chords) into BIAB, record it across & the chords automatically show up in step time sequencer in korg.

Works even better than Busker software did.

HI,
couldn't find an email, and my PM doesn't always work, so here goes.

I think Jeff got it working okay..

While I was experimenting with this setup, I discovered it also worked well with a program called BUSKER, which can be used in this manner also.

Most of my songs are programmed for Busker so I've gone back to using it instead of BIAB.

Korg Setting
Press Global Button
Midi Setup
SetUP Gen CTL TAB
Clock Send Not Ticked
Clock Source External USB
Local Control On

Midi OUT Channel TAB

CH 2 Upper 2
CH 3 Upper 3
CH 4 Lower
Balance Channels OFF
Drop Down Menu
Write Global Midi Setup
Name it BIAB
( I saved to Midi Setup 3,
my keyboard appears to
default to 3 when sequencer
button is pressed)

Press OK
(Turn off Real Drums & Real Tracks)
--------------------------------------------
Type Chord Progression into BIAB
Put in the correct Tempo.
Doesn't matter what style is used as long as it matches
Time Signature for the Korg style.
Put in correct no. of bars.
Make sure loop is off & you only have 1 chorus.
( for the end, just choose same chord as the last chord for your song,
the ending is not really used).

Korg
Press sequencer
Press Global & make sure
BIAB is default setting
Make sure Clock Source is External USB
Press Exit
Press Record
Choose Backing Sequence
Choose Style
Change Resolution from High to the Lowest Setting
Press START/STOP Button
Press Play in BIAB
Make sure whatever style part you're using is lit ie intro 1 ( whatever)
Press variation buttons & ending in realtime
When Song is finished Press Record Burtton.
Press Record Button again
Choose Step Backing Seqence
Your Chord sequence & variations etc should show up.
If you need to alter the variations or chords etc
Press Done
Press Menu Button
Choose Song Edit
Press Delete Tab
Scroll TRACK to ALL
Press Execute.
This Removes all the notes, but doesn't remove CHord Symbals
Press Record again
Choose Step Backing Sequence
Use EVENT to scroll thru the Chords Variations etc & just change any data as required.
Press Done & Save
Save your Backing Song, & Load into pc sequencer for further editing ( whatever)
Go Back to Global
Change Setting to Default
Clock Source Internal
Exit ; Play song.
Sounds like a lot of work, but easy once you've saved settings in BIAB & Korg.
Pick style parts in realtime

best wishes
Rikki

update

(You need to choose the style in style play mode first, test to make sure it's syncing ok, then go to sequencer mode etc)
