Mics, condensor mics

I am looking into getting a condensor mic, for vocals. This would be my first.

I was wondering, what is the difference if i record with a condensor mic, or if i just use a desk mic or (what i have been using) the R3's included mic? When i use these to record, the end result sounds the same as most other recordings, or at least i can't tell the difference.
