MS2000 mod sequence (turn off unwanted pitch/dial?)

Post by Vintagedude »

Hi

I went with the MS-2000 in the end, and I'm glad I did. The first thing I done was programmed the mod-seq to a specific pattern by dialing in the pitch of each note on SEQ1, then controlling the seq with the arpeggiator. However, I was wondering if there is a way to directly switch off various pitches/notes within the sequence that I don't want? Though I recognize the sequencer is in actual fact using the pitch of just one note

For example if I programmed a pattern but didn't want the pitch of dial 3 and 4 to sound, is there any way to turn it off directly? One way I did this was to route seq 2 to effect the sustain of amp (EG 2), I've tried osc level but it doesn't really do much to help.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the club man :)

Osc Level works, just make sure you have the Osc Level knobs at the middle position (or a lil below if you're using distortion).. they act as a center value. This also means you need to set the level on every step +/- 63. If you just turn the level down on the steps you dont want anything, the steps the notes are on will be quiet.. so you want to make sure and gain those up.

Also make sure you have the Arp Gate turned all the way to the right, or else some clicking can occur where you have the values turned down.

Obviously if both Osc's are turned up, you'll want to assign both Osc levels.

The other alternative is to use the Amp Level instead of the Osc levels, that way you can free up a param to use for something like cutoff, etc.

proof is in the pudding i guess. here i'm using the osc levels and even distortion and im not getting any note artifacts from the notes with the levels down. it's just a simple bassline to demonstrate, nothing special but it works: http://lazytrap.com/s/ms2kseq.mp3 it's 2 difference sequences using dual mode and both timbres.

it just takes a lil practice/trial and error really. once you get it down it'll come to you much easier.

here's a quick analogue/noise drum thing i did too, runs through a guitar pedal for distortion.. http://lazytrap.com/s/ms2kdrums.mp3
