MDE-X 1.1 License Issue

I am running Cubase 4.1.2 LE on Windows XP SP2. I just bought a padKontrol which came bundled with MDE-X. The installation instructions boldly proclaim that when I start the host application I will be asked for the authorization code. Instead I get a message telling me "Sorry, there no license is found on this machine to use the software" and no opportunity to enter my authorization code. I have installed the plugin in the correct VST Plugins folder and don't know where to go from here.

Can anyone help?
