Correct Sysex string for Native Mode in pK

Post by smokeynyc »

Korg Forums community:

I am asking for help on creating the correct Sysex string to enter native mode for the padKontrol.

I have followed the instructions in Korg's MIDI implementation chart and in this topic:

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... ght=native

However, there is something wrong with the Sysex string I have created. I am not an expert on this sort of the thing, so I need some help.

My current Sysex string does not tell the padKontrol to make all of it's controls active for use in native mode. I have the pads and some of the other buttons active, but others don't work at all. From what I have read in this forum, there is a certain Sysex string that activates each knob, button, pad, and the XY pad. This is the key to unlocking the whole unit for further customization. But I cannot find or write this exact Sysex message.

With this in mind, I think it would helpful to the community to make a sticky topic which lists different variations of the Sysex string, from which users could customize to their liking. For example, certain Sysex commands tell the padKontrol to have certain light on and/or blinking.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
smokey

hmm... I dunno if i'm too nice or if it is because most people here either don't have the same interest or just don't know nothing about using the padKontrol.
Although this is a kinda nice idea.. I don't think that you'll find crowd answering this post !
i have to say programming sysex is a tideous job.
but anyway... post your sysex and let's see. I don't guarranty that' will get through it but it may attract others if we start.

PS: It's really hard to get answers on this forum. even to pertinent questions and good ideas

heya,

check out the pdf i put together, there are two examples for putting the padkontrol into native mode, starting either with all lights on, or all lights off: http://www.mediafire.com/file/lkmwfajtj ... e-mode.pdf

i don't know if you are on windows, but the simplest way i found to get started and to troubleshoot was with Bomes SendSX: http://www.bome.com/midi/sendsx/

It is like Notepad text editor for sysex. You just type or paste the sysex string in there, then hit send. (first set your midi I/O ports in sendsx to the padkontrol)

So paste the three lines that initialize native mode in there, and send, and you should see all the lights go on or off. then you can try sending the sysex to turn one of the lights on or off or something. and if you do something on the padkontrol, hit a pad or turn a knob, you should see the incoming sysex data in sendsx.

Thank You A LOT ! for making it simple. I compiled on my own most of the sysex message but nice summary with the .pdf file and you made it public. Great work !
I'm especially working on Reason and I'm willing to program a remote file that can use better the pad kontrol functions. Most of them must be programmed in lua. I personnally am not to fond of using another prorgam to translate. it can be buggy and constant return to the computer is required. I'd like to be able to padKontrol lots ans lots of features.
so I'm taking bits of progamming from what has already been done by studying the other remote maps.
