Newbie needs help with Korg R3

Post by Motise »

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, I have recently bought a Korg R3 for music production. I wanted to update the patches downloaded from the Korg site but before I do, I want to know if I will lose my current presets and will I have to reload them if I wanted to use them again.

Thanks

hi motise,

here's how it works:

you'll do all your uploading&downloading from the editor connected to your computer via USB (or MIDI in&out in rare cases). so i assume you already installed that and made sure it recognizes your R3.

sounds for R3 come in two formats: R3l and R3p. L files contain full library files where as P files are only single patches.

when you load an R3l file it will overwrite all your existing patches but no worries: all factory default patches are also available on the Korg site (or here on the download section, for that matter), so should you wish to return them know that they are not lost to you.

R3p files on the other hand can be loaded one by one, without disturbing the whole library. just right click on a patch in the editor that you want to overwrite and "load" it. you must of course remember to upload the patch to your R3 before exiting the editor.

these are some of the basics. i'm usually around should you have more questions,

regards,

t.

A little known fact I got from the manual is that the original patches are always present within the R3. If you want to restore the original patches after you've overwritten them, just do the following:

1. Hold down Shift and Press 8/Protect.
2. Turn the page dial to off and press 8/protect again.

For one patch:
3. Navigate to the patch you want to revert.
4. Press Shift and 7/Preload
5. Make sure the page dial is on 1 prog, and press 7 again.
6. Press 7 again.

To reset the whole R3:
Follow the same steps, except instead of choosing '1 prog' choose 'AllProg'.

You can also reset global data in this way.
Current: MS-20 Mini, Minilogue, SY77
Past: Korg R3, Volca Bass, X50, Mg Slim Phatty, Rld Gaia SH-01, Yamaha TX81Z
