triton le and cubase le4
i'm sure this has been covered somewhere ... can you point me in the right direction, please ...
surely, there's got to be a file i can import into cubase's midi device manager that matches up the sounds on the triton le with the selections made via cubase
currently, cubase le 4 has 3 "Triton" devices listed - but none match up with the sounds as they actually exist on my keyboard
any help is much appreciated - thx in advance

come on folks! help me out! i'm acutally a really nice guy ...
did some more reading ... cubase allows you to import your own instrument patch listing - in xml format ...
i've seen .inf files for the korg triton le but no xml file ...
surely this exists as both cubase and the korg triton have been around for years!
help me pullease!

I have to ask, is it really necessary?
the LE offers you a category selection system that wouldn't be reproduced in cubase easily, so whats wrong with selecting patches from the screen?
Also, if you ever load any new programs or make your own, the cubase patch listing would be incorrect.

X-Trade -
when you say "selecting patches from the screen", do you mean the LE screen?
yeah, i'm a beginner ... probably pretty obvious!

triton le and cubase le 4
ok, thank you for all of your help so far
what seems so easy for all of you seems hopelessly complicated for a beginner i guess
i've come a long way thanks to the help across this forum
so here;s where i am; got my cubase le 4 sequencer and korg triton le talking - midi seems good to go finally
so, in cubase, i start w the first midi track, select a bank (0=A, 1=B, etc.) then a program 0-127, and go ahead and record it - no issues
then i go to midi track 2, and select a different bank and program, but when i do that, BOTH tracks use the newly selected "sound"
in other words, i havent been able to use more than one sounds from the korg ... it plays all tracks i record using the bank/program i select in the last/newest midi track ...
what am i doing wrong?

Put the LE into Sequencer mode.
Now you've got 16 tracks to work with on the LE. But they are all set to MIDI channel one. Set track 1 to midi ch 1, track 2 to midi ch 2, and so on, on the MIDI tabs on the LE screen. While you're at it, change any INT status to BTH. Then go to the Prog tabs and set a different program for each track. Then go to Cubase and get rid of any Program/Bank change messages in the tracks (until you know enough to set them correctly). Just keep the midi notes in the Cubase tracks, for now. Assign each track in Cubase with a midi channel to match the instrument you want and that you assigned within the LE.
When you start Cubase playing the midi tracks, you should hear different instruments playing, but they'll all be mixed together onto a single audio track. This is when you learn that even though you have 16 midi channels, you only have four audio outputs that can be playing at one time, so you won't get 16 audio tracks in Cubase unless you record them separately. You can only get two separate stereo tracks out of the LE at one time, or four mono tracks, and that's only if you assign Individual Outputs 1 and 2 to be used by some program rather than the default main L/R outputs. So the LE can play up to 16 different programs assigned to midi channels from your sequencer, but the result is normally a single stereo audio track coming from the main audio outputs, not 16 separate audio tracks in Cubase.

korg triton le and cubase le 4
YES! that did the trick, thank you ...
1. was able to figure out how to select banks/programs via cubase; that allows me to use the same 'template' sequencer midi set up for every cubase song, right ...
2. i did a lot of this 10+ years ago when i played in a cover band; had a pretty cool rig - an ensoniq sq1 (i think it was an sq1) which i used as the midi controller, a kurzweil k2000s, a roland drum module, and a yamaha sound module - all running via a cheap USB interface into a mac
what's interesting / disturbing is that my current set up (for a hobby only) is much simpler - a used korg triton le, a tascam 122 usb interface, the free copy of cubase le 4 that came with the tascam, all running on a toshiba mini / netbook
and YET - while i never had any issues back in the day with midi - had hundreds of songs programmed in a mastertracks sequencer from which we played sets every night without a single issue ... - i am experiencing ALL kinds of issues with my current set up
a lot of annoying things, like a note will "stick" indefinitely until i turn the korg off and on; the sequence wont play the right selected sounds the first time around; i have to start PLAY and then STOP and re-start PLAY again, and then it plays the right sounds; sometimes, and at different areas of the same song; sounds will change to something else randomly; when i have 3-4 midi tracks running simultaneously all playing the same riff (to create the sound I want, i double-triple-quadruple layer sounds on top of each other sometimes), the set up starts lagging, and will start missing notes randomly ...
so, to make a short story long, ... is the korg triton le just a shitty midi controller? is it an issue that i am using the korg as both my controller and single sounds/programs source? it can't be the tascam USB/midi interface which was pretty pricy? even though the laptop is just a few months old, is it perhaps too slow? do i potentially have some korg midi settings screwed up?
any ideas?

The problems you are describing appear to be due to inexperience on your part with using midi from Cubase to control the LE as a sound module. The LE hardware is probably working just fine. You need to understand all the midi events/commands that you are receiving and sending to the keyboard. You are probably sending program change events to it, which accounts for the sounds that change when it plays. Note that I mentioned in my prior message that you need to remove those. You may also be echoing (causing midi feedback), which will cut off notes. You can turn Local Off in the global settings, but also Cubase can be set to echo midi back that it receives - and that needs to be turned off too. The notes hanging is also because it is probably receiving a note on without getting a note off message, and you don't need to turn of the LE to stop it, since you can send it an All Notes Off message. If you turn off the echoing problem, then this problem may go away too.
In other words, each problem you are experiencing has a reason that can be traced to your possible inexperience, so you just need to go through each problem one by one to figure out what you're doing wrong before blaming the hardware. This is a normal part of the learning process, because nobody is born knowing midi, and it all can be rather confusing at times.

Can you help me now?
I was SOOOO thankful to find out that I am not the only one having trouble getting Cubase LE 4 and my Korg Triton Le communicating. I am having the exact same trouble, the korg trition in the memory banks of Cubase Le 4 does not match up with the "samples" in my Korg.
I could not tell from the replies what solved this issue for you, so I am writting you directly. I am having the same "learning curve" as you; I started with Cakewalk over 5 years ago, and wish I could go back. It was a "cakewalk" compared to this Cubase program...

Cubase 4LE and Triton LE sounds
I had some luck by importing an xml patch list into Cubase. I found the patch list by searching around on the "net. Then I followed directions and imported it into the correct folder in Cubase. It helped some. The patches didn't completely line up but my frustration was diminished.
script file
if you find the right script file it will line everything up perfectly. I use a script file with motif and it works perfectly in nuendo 4
script file
can anyone help me out with that im serching for that file myself
Did you guys figure this out?

I guess it works after all!
Just need to put your rig in program mode or combi or local mode off?
Please see the linked software that will import from your
Triton >> sonar
SOnar >> Cubase
Cubase to Nuendo...
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4ef7a4/n/InsMaker.rar
put triton text files in the below folder.
Your file and folder system might be different, I have cubase 5.
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\Jay\Application Data\Steinberg\Cubase SX 3\Scripts\Patchnames
Windows 7
C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 5\Scripts\Patchnames
insmaker downlloads from triton to sonar .INI file.
patchname converter makes the triton.txt file from Sonar .INI file.
Export from cubase midi device manager to Nuendo .XML.
I have done this for you but your welcome to install the software and do it your self.
SOnar is not required for this.

Sorry for the confusing download web site, I dont have a server any more.
