My Mac Wont recognize my Korg Nanopad

Post by zadawg55 »

Hey everyone,

I just purchased the Korg Nanopad and tried plugging it into my Macbook that has Snow Leopard on it to install the drivers. My macbook showed no sign that I even plugged in a new device through the USB. I tried plugging it into a friends macbook which also has Snow Leopard and it did the same thing. I then tried plugging it into a PC and it worked just fine and the Driver installation began on the PC. So is this an issue with Snow Leopard because i cannot not get it to work at all? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks,

I don't think its a problem - I don't think the mac will show anything up when you plug a device that isn't external storage into a USB port...

Just make sure you install the drivers and you should be set to go!

But what confuses me is that it started downloading a driver when i plugged it into a PC and hasn't done the same when i plugged it into my mac.

might be snow leopard

I just swapped to a macbook from a pc, and my microkontrol keyboard also fails to be recognised by the macbook even after uploading the new drivers for it. Other forums have suggested its the usb cable so i swapped that but its still not working. I don't know if the microkontrol locks its self to the pc with an update and needs to be reset, or snow leopard isn't supported, either way if you get yours sorted can you let me know?

sorted it

been a bit of a cock really, got it fixed though.
need to go to korg website and get the 1.0.3 driver to reinstall your korg as a mac version, then do the 1.0.6 update and it runs fine. Theres a pdf that looks like its just for pc but halfway through it changes to mac and that will see you right

The firmware update doesn't set it for "PC only" or "Mac Only". It sounds as though perhaps an earlier firmware update you had done on your PC didn't complete properly. Where had you been looking that you didn't see it "showing up"?

won't recognize my nanopad - snow leopard

Post by jugrote »

I'm having the same problem. I just purchased a Nanopad and am trying to use it with my new Macbook with Snow Leopard (10.6.3). I've tried installing the 10.0.9 driver and no sound is happening. The Korg Kontrol Editor software sees the pad but the Audio Midi Setup in my Mac / Utilities doesn't see it. I've re-installed the plugin several times and restarted my computer several times. Not sure what else to do. Please help or I'm going to have to return this to the store :(

It isn't listed in your MIDI devices menu in the Audio MIDI Setup? When you say the Kontrol Editor "sees" the pad, what do you mean? Is it listed in the MIDI In and MIDI Out options? Does it communicate with the nanoPAD?

Keep in mind that as it's just a MIDI controller simply touching the pads won't trigger sound on your computer. You'll need to use it with some sort of host DAW software (GarageBand, Logic, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, etc.) to trigger sounds.

Hope this helps to clarify!

Exactly - it isn't listed in the MIDI devices menu in Audio MIDI Setup.

As you know when the Kontrol Editor, it asks if you have a nanoPAD or nanoKEY or nanoKontrol. When I have the nanoPAD plugged in to USB the software recognizes that it's plugged in, but when I go to the screen I can't make any sample sounds. Maybe that's because it's not supposed to. I have set the MIDI In and Out options manually in the Kontrol Editor to nanoPAD - Pad and nanoPAD - Control, respectively. Both manual and auto settings of these options doesn't produce any sound.

I downloaded the EZ Drummer and can't get any sounds through the nanoPAD. Same for Garageband (downloaded the plugin too).

Again I think it goes back to the Audio MIDI Setup on my Mac not recognizing the nanoPAD. The only input listed is Internal Mic and the only output listed is Headphones. I tried installing the plugin several times and restarting my computer several times. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Looks like everything is fine and working now. I'm using Garageband and I'm getting some great sounds. I'd love to know if Garageband can be used to trigger sounds/samples I've already recorded. I'm guessing I need a copy of Live!

Thanks much,

Korg Kontrol Editor -Mac Book Pro- not seeing keypresses

Post by philsaudio »

Hello I am new here but no nob.

I just got the trio of NANO usb midi controllers and have been working on getting it to play with PT 8 LE on a brand new Mac Book (osx snow leopard 10.6.3)

1. In the Kontrol Editor splash screen I do see the three keyboards. If I disconnect one and re open it is gone. Plug it back in and re open the editor it is detected. When I select one and press ok.

2. Once into the editor I can load (looks like it anyhow) the .set files to the individual kontrollers. No indication it isn't working from errors etc.

2. I do not see any activity on the keys or sliders in the individual editor screens when I depress or move an input element on the controller.
Should I see movement here? Is something wrong when I dont?

3. Moving on to applications/utilities/audio midi setup
With the driver V 1.07 I do not see the kontrollers
With the driver V 1.09 I do see the kontrollers in the MIDI Studio2 they are online and appear to be working. The only parameter I can edit here is the name of the device, ports and connectors are not editable.

4. Inside of protools I can see that two of the buttons on the Kontrol are mapped to the first two sliders in the mixer window. Pressing one alternates the slider from 0 to 127. Pressing the other momentarialy moves the second channel slider from 0 to 127.

I have tried to follow all the above information and perhaps I am almost there.

Should I see movement in the korg editor?
Is there a way to hover over a button in PT,and move a button on the kontrol and attach it to the button?

I'd like to know what jugrote did to get it to work. I am facing the same issue. Running OS X 10.8.3. nanoKONTROL2 is not showing up in Audio MIDI Setup, but the Korg software (Kontrol editor, etc.) is seeing it.
