Synth sound similar to 'Crazy' by Seal

Post by JohnD73 »

Hi,

I have an M3 & I am struggling to find a sound similar to the synth sound on the Seal song 'Crazy', I have tried different Arpeggio/Karma to get the effect of the rhythm of the song but nothing sounds similar, has anyone else tried 'Crazy' on here or has anyone got a better idea of how to go about it.

Many Thanks
John

The M3 certainly has the synth power to handle that. Could you be more specific regarding which sound? There's a couple featuring in that song

Did that song in a covers band way back when, different gear though (less sexy than the M3 for sure!)

He's probably referring to the sound the begins right after the orchestra hit at 00:19.

listened to the main theme of the song

you can try to use a dark synth mixed with an organ
insert a lowpass filter (add little resonance and cutoff modulation by a controler)
pan it to the left
send it to a 1/4 or 1/8 delay panned to the right

you will get something similar...
YAMAHA W5 + TRITON proX (exb MOSS / exb PCM01 / exb PCM05 / exb SCSI / 64Mo) + M3-73 No.000187 v2.0 (exb Radias v2.0 / exb M256) + DOEPFER LMK2+
AKAI DPS16 + MINDPRINT Envoice + ART Dual MP + RODE NT1000
BEHRINGER DDX3216 + 4 MACKIE SRM350 + 2 MACKIE SWA1501 (+ PEAVEY KB300 )
...

Use a filtered OB type sound and use the ribbon routed to filter, moving across the ribbon left to right as you bang the chords out. That's how I've done it. Save the ribbon motions to your sequencer as a "Controller".
