M50 - 88 control panel crashing when using X stand

Post by auralplane »

Hey,

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this. I literally got the first M50 - 88 key unit to arrive in Canada, so I'm wondering if this is a result of production glitches.

I've been using the keyboard on a V-Stand since new, but this weekend I used it on an X-stand spread wide and low. While playing, suddenly the keyboard would crash/lock up, panel lights would turn off.

I tried shifting the keyboard around on the stand and definitely found that it affected the failures. It got to the point where I'd get two messages "Updating Left Control Panel" and "Updating Right Control Panel" and then it would ask me to turn off the keyboard.
I shifted the keyboard around a bit on the stand, it would boot again, but would still crash on the controls (no lights or inoperative).
Eventually I found a position that worked.
I brought the keyboard home, put it on the V-Stand... worked fine.

I know the base i particle board (which for an 88 keyboard is a bit flimbsy), but seriously... has anyone else encountered this before?

Rob

I have been using my M50-88 on a X stand, low enough for me to sit in a chair and play on, in my home for a whole year now with none of the problems you report. Hmmm, might be time to use that warranty.

That really sounds like a 'stress-related' electrical problem .. if the only difference between working and not-working has to do with how the chassis is stressed. Could be a hairline crack in a trace on a PC board, or a connector that is not quite making a contact, or a cold solder joint in an area under stress .. might be worth opening it up to see if all connections are solid and seem stable ..

I have had my 88 key m50 on an x stand since i purchased it three weeks ago. None of the problems you describe, none at all. Gosh good luck with that. Keep us informed.

As it turns out, this is the 'freeze' issue and has nothing to do with the stand...
