Should I bid on a Korg M3 ? Korg reliable.
I'm going to bid, max I will go is £1200 when the new price is £1700 for a 61 key version, but at these prices i'm kinda scared that the unit will malfunction on me in the future.
So is the M3 reliable ? And how do Korg handle repairs that are not by the original owner or out of warrenty.
You know I could spend £1700 at DV247.com and get a 4 year warrenty, you have to ask yourself that at these prices, is the £500 saving and gamble really worth it.
My reasoning is that I was going to buy the M50 + Karma software, but I wouldnt need to if I bought the M3 . So at £1200 thats £150 extra for all the extra the M3 gives.

No please, don't get the M3. Is not at all reliable. It happen to be used by many musicians and pros around the world, but they are just suffering of mass delusion.Dapunk wrote: So is the M3 reliable ? And how do Korg handle repairs that are not by the original owner or out of warrenty.

Sorry for the wise-ass answer, but what where you expecting? Korg is well known as one of the top keyboard manufacturers in the world. Do you really think the Flagship is not reliable ? Please
As for the repairs, they are handled like every repair. With the same care. They won't do you a lousy repair just because you are not the original owner. If is out of warranty, it doesn't matter if you are the owner or not, you'll just have to pay for the repair as any mortal should.
I got my M50 out of Ebay a year ago and I'm very happy with it. I even got the original box, all manuals, original invoice and I even expanded the warranty to two years.

At least in the U.S., warranty support (2 years) is only provided to the original owner.Dapunk wrote: And how do Korg handle repairs that are not by the original owner or out of warrenty.
Regarding reliability, the M3 is as reliable as any other keyboard in its class. You should make sure that the used keyboard doesn't have anything broken on it.

Generally, if you need repair work done, you contact a "Certified Service Location" from Korg's list on their site. I've only done this 3 times: Once to get a Korg Karma repaired 6 years ago when water condensation fried the adapter (under warranty), once to repair 2 keys and a disk drive on a used 01/Wfd after i bought it damaged ($100), and once to refurbish a Korg N364 before selling it ($75). No damage to my M3 as of yet, it's been very reliable. I've had great luck with Korg Products in general, they are definitely built to last.
You take your keyboard in, leave it for about a week, the repair guy does his magic, calls you up and hands you a bill. He told me generally things don't get very expensive unless it involves reprogramming e proms... or you do something silly like dropping a Triton out of a moving truck.

That's some piece of advanced logics.mocando wrote: Korg is well known as one of the top keyboard manufacturers in the world. Do you really think the Flagship is not reliable ? Please
"They sold many, and they are not so stupid as to cheat on its components".
In Phylosophy 101 books,
they call it the "Toyota Axiom".

1) The M3 is a good instrument
2) it is not the best-built Korg instrument (the "modular" gimmick is just that: try disassembling and reassembling the module from the keyboard a couple of times, and bye bye screws)
3) recently Korg has shown signs of Toyota-like behaviour as far as honesty, transparence and technical support is concerned.
So: buy a M3, but not because its reliability is a "metaphysical absolute".
Buyer beware, check the piece you buy if it's second-hand,
and keep a pile of old comics ready in case you have to wait some weeks for a Korg answer in case of need.

If you can find used equipment locally, either from store or private sellers, then it's safer than getting it from e-bay from 100s of miles away.
I bought my m3-m locally from a private seller. Went there personally to pick up. Tested it in the studio before handing money....
If you buy from online auctions, then stick to ebay that has buyer protection... etc.
