TR-Rack to TR-Rack Backup
Hi,
Can I backup data from one TR-Rack to another TR-Rack? If so, is it a simple midi connection?
Also, can I do the same thing from a TR-Rack to a regular Trinity, and back to the TR-Rack?
One other question - is it possible to do editing on a regular Trinity that I cannot do on my TR-Rack? I know it's easier to see the editing, but are there functions available on a Trinity that are not available on a TR-Rack? I can get around pretty well on my TR-Rack, so that's not a problem. But I wonder if there are things I can do as far as editing and programming on a Trinity that I can't do on a TR-Rack.
Thanks for any help!
Mychal

Yes, this should be possible on most synths, or at least on most Korg synths. You'll have to enable sysex on both, check Global channels are the same, and initiate the data dump on one. And yep, just a MIDI cable. Can I backup data from one TR-Rack to another TR-Rack? If so, is it a simple midi connection?
No, there's some subtle differences between the two, making it impossible. It might work for some individual banks, but not for everything. Can I backup data from one TR-Rack to another TR-Rack? If so, is it a simple midi connection?
You can fully edit Programs on the Trinity keyboard. On the rack this can only be done with a computer editor, and it would be hard to find one that would run on any of today's computers. All Combi and Effects editing is the same on both, but with totally different interfaces, of course.is it possible to do editing on a regular Trinity that I cannot do on my TR-Rack?
Good luck!

trinitro runs on windows 7 just fine
you can send files from rack to rack, rack to trinity, trinity to rack. i recommend as everyone else that you get trinitro and do it all on the computer. i have windows 7 and it works fine. then you can weed out all the sounds you dont like. and once you get all the sounds you do like, they'll all be in one file. the only thing you'll want to do if youre downloading PCG's is, set them all to the same global settings you like, otherwise each PCG will be different in the global area. such as reverse sustain pedal polarity, after touch, and velocity etc. also try this in your editing. you can set the leslie to trigger from the sustain pedal. makes it real nice when playing live.

It's quite true that individual banks can be exchanged between Trinity and TR-rack, as I said.
However, TR-rack has extra PCM that is not on a stock-standard Trinity keyboard. (It's only available on the Trinity if you have the PBS expansion, iirc.) Therefore, there's no way that you can send sounds that use the extra PCM, or the whole TR contents, to a regular Trinity and back again for backup purposes.
Trinitro sounds like an excellent way to go if you're using a computer, thanks for the tip, Spacecowboy.

Thanks very much for the reply! I like the TR-Rack I've got so much, I just bought another one. It's good to know I can send data straight across from one TR-Rack to the other.jg:: wrote:Yes, this should be possible on most synths, or at least on most Korg synths. Cool. I just found and downloaded Trinitro, and a midi driver. I ordered a usb-midi cable, so once that gets here, I'll hook it all up and see if I can get it going.i recommend as everyone else that you get trinitro and do it all on the computer. i have windows 7 and it works fine.
I found someone on Ebay who's selling an upgraded version of Sounddiver for $25. I think this shipped with the TR-Rack when you bought it new. I bought mine used years ago, and I didn't get the Sounddiver program with it. Is this something else I should have, or is it pretty much the same thing as Trinitro?
Thanks very much for all the help and information!

Can't Dump Data TR-Rack to TR-Rack
Hi,
I just got the "new" TR-Rack I bought, and it seems to be in perfect shape. Everything works on it, and it receives midi data fine.
When I hook it up to my other TR-Rack, and try to execute any of the dumps (Programs, Combis, Banks, etc) the sending TR looks like it's doing all the right stuff, but no change happens in the receiving TR.
I switched midi cables, checked all the settings, etc, but I can't get the data to be received. At least it doesn't show up anywhere.
I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is. It seems like a pretty straightforward procedure. Does anyone have any idea why the receiving TR won't show changes after the data dumps?
Thanks,
Mychal

Sorry to keep bringing this up, but I'm not able to make it happen.Spacecowboy wrote:you can send files from rack to rack
I have two TR-Racks, and I have checked the settings many times and I just can't get either one of them to receive a data dump from the other one. They both appear to work perfectly in every way, so I don't think there is a problem with either unit.
Does anyone have any ideas? Spaceboy, have you actually done a backup this way?
I've written to Korg too, but they have not gotten back to me.
Thanks for any help!

System Exclusive
Thanks a lot to Spacecowboy, who helped me find the System Exclusive page in Global. I didn't realize there are two pages to some of the Global pages. After I turned that on in both TRs, exchanging data between the two TR-Racks works perfectly.
