Using the EX switches on drum tracks?

Post by PathosMusic »

Ok so some people have had questions of having "drum pattern variations" and such, or fills of some sort. While it isnt directly possible to set these up, I may have an idea to use all this in combi mode (if it works!) but it will take time to set up.

Basically the idea is using 2-3 custom made drum kits that are split amongst the keyboard. (i.e. kit 1 has sounds from only C1 - B3 and kit 2 only has notes from C3-B5). Using the same sounds in each kit would be ideal and easier for editing purposes for the drum track. The drum pattern would have to be created in a DAW such as cubase or ableton live. you would play the pattern in its basic form using the range C1-B3, Copy that pattern up 3 octaves and add your changes, like ride cymbals, bongos ... whatever u want.

I have set it up already and it works... but not the way I want so far. I have to mute the track of kit 1 and solo kit 2 using the touch screen, which is inefficient when playing live.

What i CANT figure out.. is if i can use the 2 switches above the XY joystick to transpose the drum tracks up and octave or down an octave.

I tried setting it up but it will only affect the instrument programs, not the drum tracks...

Transpose I don't think would affect drum programs.

Anyway, the best solution would be to use RPPR in Sequencer Mode.
A lot of us use sequencer mode for live performances without actually recording any note data, or using patterns.

There are two RPPR solutions I can think of:
1. Actually recording the patterns in RPPR, triggering them that way
2. Recording SYSEX to change the drum track pattern in RPPR, and assigning it via the chord triggers. Other information can be coded in here too like changing the active track/changing programs/changing keyzones/changing arpeggiator patterns, etc, so you can actually have the four drum triggers setting up entirely different sections of your song.
