Dont take these comments the wrong way.. they're designed to help start a discussion about how to best use these mad gadgets..
firstly.. the stuff you've done is kinda good.. very inventive.. i know you're jamming over the top.. but for me.. none of it really works.
i think youve made a mistake i made, and thats trying to layer too many sounds on top of each other just because you can.. and also.. some of the beats etc. arent perfectly in time leading to a air of choas at points..
hope you dont mind me not just posting saying "cool"

layer a million things if they work together...but im saying, sometimes its tempting to add layer after layer to create that perfect sound.. often that F*cks it upcurtaineater wrote:I dont think layering a ton is a mistake at all.

Layering one thing after another is a slippery slope.curtaineater wrote:I dont think layering a ton is a mistake at all. One of my favorite things is building huge walls of sound. I think the video shows an interesting way to use the thing. I always start from scratch. I need to get some premade stuff going.
I am not a big fan of when people trow in everything including the kitchen sink in their tracks which obviously being pointed out here.
The number one thing I liked about the track was the Asian beat...that was way cool. But it is sooooooo easy to get caught up and keep adding and adding and the next thing you know you have this collection of kool riffes and beats but no consistency.
The other trick to layering is Panning from right to left. Maybe a shift function on the Program Volume might do the trick in a firmware update (note to self: add this to existing list). When every thing is on top of one another it gets real noisy. How ever done right then you got music and an original beat. There is an art to it.
The way I practice is I focus on learning this tool an instrument and focus my attention with what I can do with only one sample bank. Those who bought the original Kaossilator got a head start on those of us who waited for something better.
The best advice I could offer a Kaoss Artist is to spend more time making everything work for one loop bank before moving on to 2 or 3 or 4 banks.
To me this will make you a better artist.
