unwanted rotary
On a finger bass - organ split combi, my foot switch is nicely turning the rotary effect on and off - but sadly also on my bass sound. Organ is routed to ifx. Bass is routed to '1' (it's own separate out) Can I make the bass ignore the rotary?
It's also a problem on my bass - whirly - the pedal nicely acts as a tremelo
toggle but it also affects the bass.

What is your foot pedal set to in global mode? or at least what are you setting in the rotary effect to get the switch to turn it on/off?
is the rotary in the IFX or the MFX?

rotary ????
Firstly I'm using Percussion BX3 program in the combi. So I copied the IFX to the combi.X-Trade wrote:What is your foot pedal set to in global mode? or at least what are you setting in the rotary effect to get the switch to turn it on/off?
is the rotary in the IFX or the MFX?
global foot switch JS+Y CC#1
Organ routed through IFX
Bass routed to Out 1.
The foot switch toggles the rotary on-off the organ. But it turns on the rotary on the bass - and leaves it on. I can get the rotary effect to stop on the bass if I hold down the foot switch. I can get the rotary effect to stop on the bass if I toggle the joy stick.
My goal is to turn on the rotary effect with my foot - just on the organ.

I've discovered that my bass in the bass-organ split combi, is also responding to aftertouch. Then I noticed in program mode, the program itself responds to aftertouch (unfortunately) This got me thinking, if I could get the program itself not to respond to aftertouch and pedal switch, then maybe I could get it to act the same in the combi.
So... editing a program - where do I turn off aftertouch? Can I turn off pedal switch response altogether?

I would say it is possible that it's not rotary you're hearing at all, but vibrato or something else on the patch, like aftertouch, or whatever.
However, i'm not sure. These kinds of things can be difficult to troubleshoot.
If the aftertouch or joystick or pedal is only being used in effects, then you don't have a problem moving it to a combi because those effects won't be there.
One thing I forgot to ask: when you press the pedal or move the joystick, does the bass still come out of out1 or is it coming out of the L/R output along with the organ? If it were still coming out of out1 on its own, then that would prove the above (that it is vibrato and not rotary you are hearing) because it would be impossible for the rotary to come out of both, or for the bass to be seperated out from the organ after they have both gone through the rotary IFX anyway.
You do know in combi mode the 'MIDI1-4' pages provide tabs for you to turn off reception (for INT timbres) and transmission (for EXT/EXT2 timbres) of various types of MIDI messages and controllers.

I agree it's likely modulation and not responding to rotary effect.
It is going out individual out 1.
I am aware of turning off pedal response on midi page 3-4 whichever.
Consider this:
In the combi mode:
The pedal switch turns on the (probably) modulation. Once it's on, I can't get it to stop unless I hold the pedal down. (Then it toggles the organ from where it was, but cuts out the modulation on the pedal. So, on the bass, the pedal is not toggling, pedalling turns mod on, and pedalling again has no effect, but holding down the pedal turns off the mod.
So...I'm happy with what it does to the organ but not the bass. Filtering response on the midi page doesn't help
At the program level, can I get it to not respond to pedal switch?

I Think a large part of the problem is that your foot pedal is assigned to joystick +Y and this will interfere with a lot of other functions.
IMO it is better to leave the switch or pedal assigned as default and change the programs where you do want to use it such that whatever you want to control is using the pedal as a mod source rather than the joystick. So you're using the pedal directly rather than indirectly through having the pedal operating the joystick.
Also, can I confirm, you're using a on/off foot switch, not a variable pedal like an expression pedal? and you have it in the 'assignable switch' socket, not the 'assignable pedal' socket?

Good news
Good news - I have solved the problem. I managed to get a KORG product specialist in Montreal. A human that talked to me!!!!
We went into the bass program itself, and
menu/pitch and turned aftertouch to intensity 00 and the joystick range from +02 to '00'. Generally we 'zeroed' everything on the page.
This is nice because now my bass - whirly split will nicely toggle the Whirly tremelo but not affect the bass. As you see, I'm not into anything bizzare! - just run-of-the-mill keyboard playing
Yes I am using a (Yamaha) sustain pedal in the pedal switch hole ( I also have a (Yamaha) expression pedal in the pedal hole which is nicely controlling ONLY the organ volume in the split)
thanks for all your thoughts!

slight update
my bass-whirly split
the pedal does not toggle the tremelo - it turns it on and leaves it on - unless I hold down the pedal (switch) so I can't really get rid of it unless I hold the pedal - but I've managed to get knob 4 to adjust it's intensity so all I have to do is remember all this when I perform!

Do you have a latching or momentary pedal? If its a sustain pedal I imagine it would be momentary. Latching pedals don't work so well.
Also you may need to reverse the polarity in global mode. If it is on all the time except for when you press the pedal, sounds like the korg is reading its open position as full (127) rather than the closed position. That shouldn't affect the rotary controls fortunately!
I think what happens is the program defaults to the effect being off, but once you push the pedal it detects the change and so sends the 127 (full on) message. Pressing the pedal makes it send a 0 (full off) message, but releasing the pedal will put it back at 127 again. This sounds like what you've described a bit previously in this thread too. Changing the polarity should definately fix that for you.
