Possible Faulty M3, Can you help

Post by NightOrchid »

Hi All

As some of you may recall, I posted a thread on here a few days ago regarding "Saving User Drum patterns", well now Im having trouble saving basic Control Surface edits on existing Progs, Combis.

Senario: I want to add some nice spacial choral effects to "Unexpected Meeting" combi. On the Control Surface In realtime Controls I adust slider 3 and slider 8 which give me a spacial harmony choir effect.

I click right menu button, select "Save Combination", change location to U-A, 000, change name to "Driving Home", but leave cateogries as they are. Press Enter and enter again.

The new Voice has saved to U-A 000, but all the control surface edits have reset to Defaults. (Memory Protect is Off), so I adjust the U-A 000 version... but still the control surface edits are reseting to "Unexpected Meeting" defaults as done by KORG.

This is the same with any programs/combis I edit as well, the control surface edits wont save, so before I RMA my M3, I de like to ask:

1) Is there a something I need to do in the combi/program itself to allow me to save the Surface edits.
2) Could it be the internal CR2092 battery (No LOW battery errors are showing).

Any advice or anything I can try or suggestions would be great.

Thanks all

AFAIK it is the same as it is on other KORG workstations. The 'real-time' controls are for exactly what they say in the name - real time manipulation of the sound for example whilst playing or on a one-off basis when needing to adjust the sound for example for a recording.

If you want to make sounds, you've actually got to go into the different parameter pages and edit them there.

I do see what you mean, however, if you look at Pg 68 & 69 of the Op Giuide, it gives you the impression that you can save them from the Control Surface.

Thanks X-Trade, at least it isnt faulty, but the manual should be clearer about this though

If theres anymore advice or tips, please post them.

1) Opguide P 68 and 69 tells only about changing and saving MIX parameters of the combi - program selection, volume, mute, pan and nothing about RT sliders or other things than can be done on control surface.
2) About RT sliders you find explanation on Parameter Guide p 135. You see that RT sliders are set on value 64 that correspond to "saved setting" of any parameter that RT slider controls. Moving RT up or down chanes te parameter (e.g cutoff) around its saved (with that combi) setting of each timbre (that is not excluded from changing scope of that RT - can be done on MIDI filtering page).
3) You assume right that changes done on control surface can be saved to new combi except RT sliders that seems to be defaulted to value 64 (that means "play saved settings").
4) For your purposes control surface section "Tone adjust" should work - these cahnges can be saved to new combi.

Thanks alland. I can see where your coming from and after reading up, It makes sense. I have found that I can save Tone Adjust and Karma Settings from the control Surface, just not settings from the RT section.

It would be nice if KORG gave us that choice though, the functions of the RT sliders wouldnt change, just being able to save, seems quite simple.

Anyway, at least it isnt faulty, which is always good, the thoughts of taking it back didnt sit well :).. at least now I can get on learning it.

Thanks for the help alland, X-Trade.
