My TR-61 went nuts at a gig Tuesday night. I’d welcome any ideas as to what could have caused the problem.
The gig was at a venue at which I’ve played many times with no problems with the TR. Tuesday, however, when I booted the TR up it was awful - like the most severe rotary speaker effect you've ever heard with massive reverb, but with little volume. It was also causing problems with my Motif ES Rack which is controlled by the TR via midi.
No sound was coming from my Motif ES Rack module. I looked at the global settings of the Motif and saw the volume level rapidly swinging back forth from 0 to 10, back to 0. It was unreal! I rebooted the Motif and during the boot sequence the screen stopped and said something like "MIDI Error." My midi stream goes from the TR to the Motif ES Rack. I took the TR out of the midi string and rebooted the Motif - at which point the Motif started working normally.
I had with me an SD card with all the global/patch/combi/AIFF settings and files for the TR-61 - a keyboard I've used the longest and really love. I disconnected all the midi connection to and from the TR and reinstalled all the settings/files from the SD card - to no avail.
That's when I decided to reprogram my Korg M50 and Motif to cover for the non-functioning TR. It was a struggle and didn’t sound as good as with the TR in the rig, i.e., I don’t want to go through that again.
Weirdest of all, the next morning, I set my system up in my garage, plugged it in and everything worked fine.
My only guess is that there was some kind of noise in the AC power that affected the TR. I have already ordered a Furman P-1800 PF Power Conditioner, but I'm dreading that something else caused the problem and I will run into it again.
Anyone have any other ideas as to what might have gone wrong?

i dunno if this will fix ur problem, but it fixed mine. not long ago i used my TR at a wedding and was getting awful sound out of it, weird sounds...had no idea what it was, played aroundw ith mixer settings, tried reloading my set etc. nothing helped, next day i figured out it seemed to be those knobs on the left hand side of the keyboard, somehow they managed to move and i was gettin weird effects. even though i changed sound they were still active and therefore affecting ever combi/program....very weird. haha.
